So, I recently acquired a new desktop my dad made from scratch a long time ago, somewhere around 2002-04 im not entirely sure. I installed Garrys Mod, then tf2, then hl2 in that order. I started up Garrys Mod, and was meeted with it downloading my addons that I have, in the middle of it installing these addons, gmod simply closes, no warnings no errors, nothing, and takes me back to my desktop. After opening Garrys Mod over and over again to download these addons....After 4 times it finally downloaded all of them, So I go to the server I always go to (Mind you this was the first time I joined it on my desktop, I always play it with no problems joining on my laptop). As it tries to join, it goes through the normal process of getting all the addons and what not. Then it gets to a certain addon (Metropolice Pack). once it extracts the addon, garrys mod closes again the same way everytime. I tried joining again and again and again for hours....Still No luck. I tried to Uninstall the addon and install it again in garrys mod, try to join, only this time, it successfully extracts that addon, and moves on to another, and guesss what, it starts extracting that addon, THEN GARRYS MOD CLOSES! I open garrys mod again, try to join the server, only this time, It closes when it extracts the goddamned metropolice pack, and its been stuck on that one since yesterday. I tried to start a singleplayer game, no crash. Tried to join another server, No crash. I've tried to clean the gmod folder. (Failed to launch game, missing executable. Most likely because garrys mod is in the common folder when i installed it here on my desktop). Asked the server admins if anything was wrong...(He claims nothing is wrong). SO IM SITTING HERE TRYING TO JOIN A FUCKING GARRYS MOD SERVER, BUT I CANT FOR SOME REASON AND IM STARTING TO GET AGGRIVATED! IF I CAN JOIN ON SOME PIECE OF CRAP LAPTOP. WHY CANT I JOIN ON A POWEFUL DESKTOP?! I DON'T GET IT. any fixes anyone can think of. (DONT GIVE ME THAT, "SAME HERE" OR "I AM HAVING THIS PROBLEM TO" BULLSHIT, I WANT FIXES

Well honastly... that computer is not even close to powerful, your laptop was better....
Try disabling your addons
Go to the options and use the dropdown box to disable downloading addons from servers and try and join, if it works, ask the server admin what addons there running and download and mount them manually.
