My flashlight has stopped working in gmod for some reason. I looked around, and the folder materials/effects/flashlight is missing. Along with a VTF file inside of the effects folder.
I can't find any places where I can download the files I'm missing, and verifying didn't work. Another thing I find strange, the flashlight works on the occasional prop or ground of a map. This case, the sand inside the engineering core on rp_wasteland final.
What do.
Bump
Nobody has any idea? I'll take any suggestions whatsoever. It gets annoying when you can't see in a dark tunnel.
Go to Steam > Garry's Mod > right click on Garry's Mod > Properties > local files > verify integrity of game cache. Should check and install new files if you are missing some.

No dice. It didn't work.
mp_flashlight 1
Always seems to be off for me.
mp_flashlight 1 didn't work.
Another breakthrough, the flashlight is working on the sand in csc_desert.
Dunno what's going on.
Bump. If someone could upload the files that are for the flashlight, I could try that.
Perhaps the almighty Newman would know what's wrong. If only he read these obscure topics.
Bump. Still having this problem.
Took the files from my server so you could try this:

Just extract and move the effects folder into your materials folder and see if that works....
No dice. Still didn't work.
try reinstall gmod if this flashlight is so damn important?
I see no reason I should have to reinstall gmod for this. I'm sure somebody has a logical explanation for it that doesn't require me reinstalling a royal fuckton of addons.
Could be an addon causing this in the first place. You install any addons recently?
We can't give you an answer, sorry. We don't know anything about what's going on with the Garry's Mod on your computer, so we can't actually tell you what the problem is and find an answer.
We're giving you all the answers we usually give people (Reinstall Gmod, etc.) and you're turning them down.
I'm sorry, but we cannot help you in any other way.
Move your fucking addons folder to desktop.
Now run garrysmod. Does it work?
Okay. If not.
Reinstall. Then run gmod.
If it works, put your addons folder back in.
Omfg. Omfg. Dude. Your whole fucking life is fixed.
People are trying to help you. We don't need to. No one does. We are all courteous enough to waste our time to help a newb with 7 posts, solve the simplest fucking problem. Show some respect, and just reinstall.
What the hell does postcount have to do with this? Since when has that mattered with these types of things. If he signed up just to ask for help and then acted like a dick, then sure, you can call him a newb. But his account is from November 2011, so unless this is a very old problem of his, he's been here for another reason.
Don't call someone a newb because of their postcount when you only have 99 posts and signed up in March this year, you fucking elitist.
lol'ed
bind a key to "impulse 100" ?
Well, this is nice. The exact same thing is happening in HL2. I guess it's a graphic error of some kind. I verified, reinstalled, ect. Issue remains. Any clue what kind of graphic errors could cause this?
Also, if I'm being an pingas it's because I'm PO'd about this. Hard to shoot people you can't see.
these people can't help with something they dont even know/see fully (imagine working on fixing a transformer with no blue prints). why don't you just backup your addons folder to documents, then reinstall. then run gmod then try if the flashlight works. if it does, try to install addons one by one, if you have a shit-ton of addons, I suggest you have to work hard for this. if you still have that problem, then maybe you have the "unofficial GMOD" version, cause if you install Gmod, it replaces new or it rebuilds the whole Gmod files which has been broken down. if you turn this down, well. it's your problem with you not being able to see in the dark. :D

also, you should download the latest directx and .net framework or whatever that is..
[editline]4th June 2012[/editline]
Directx is used by HL2 which is used by Gmod, you need the LATEST one of it.. also, if you're expiriencing crashes which says .net framewurk run error blabla bla, you should download .net framework. hope this helps..
PS: directX is MOST important in this matter at hand because it renders the water, flashlight and reflections. even some lightings...
How do I update DirectX, may I ask? I'm not quite sure. I always got it from packaged installs on a game disc.

google is NEVER your enemy... unless you search for porn in the close presence of your parents.. directX is free and always will be... I think
I've updated my drivers and all, and the problem still persists. Some other people have been having the same problem.
Also, EP1's flashlight isn't working either. I heard it could be graphic settings, I'll try that.
UPDATE: No dice. None of the settings fixed it. I grabbed a few pics, they can be seen here:

Any more ideas?
Have you tried a Clean Install of GMod?
Problem fixed. Someone found an update for my video card, which apparently was "Unknown Drivers" to Steam, and the problem is fixed.

Ok, I made an account just to post this. You are so far the only person I have found with the exact same problem was me. Could you go a bit more into detail about the fix? I've had the problem for a long time, and it is really annoying.

Thank you so much! my flashlight has not worked for like 2 months!
Did you check in the keyboard bindings if flashlight is binded to a key?
