Hello everyone, just registered and stuff. I'm LordBaconus, It's a pleasure to meet you(this is my first post). As a matter of fact, I just figured how to host a Garry's Mod server with srcds. However, my youtuber friend(He's brazilian, so you probably aren't interested, but if you can speak portuguese make sure to chek him out) and I don't know if my network can handle about 6 people + myself. So here's all you'll need to know and my questions: What you need to know:
Download: 10Mbits/s (1 Megabyte)

Upload: 1Mbits/s (100 Kbytes)

MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8Ghz

RAM: 2x2Gb RAM DDR3 1666Mhz 2x2Gb RAM DDR3 1333Mhz

AMD Radeon HD6850 1024Mb GDDR5 256
What I need to know:
How many people can I have on this server while I'm playing?

How many people can I have on this server while I'm playing and voice-chatting on skype(with all of them)?

How many people can I have on this server while I'm playing, voice-chatting on skype(with all of them) and recording in 720p with Mirillis Action?

Can I run, simultaneously and on the same computer, another OS?

If yes for the previous question, what is your suggestion of a lightweight, fast, server-oriented OS that can run srcds?
Second computer info and questions: What you need to know:
MS Windows 7 Starter 32-bit SP1

AMD E-350

2Gb RAM, no idea if DDR3 or DDR2

AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics
What I need to know:
Can I run the server on this computer and while playing, voice-chatting on skype(with everyone else) and recording on the other PC?

How much lag can I expect from each config?
[editline]16th September 2013[/editline] Oh snap, just noticed I can't post help threads here! Can I move this to the Help sub?
Well, Garry's Mod servers don't eat up Ram as much as CPU. I would say One core on your Phenom II X6 processor can handle 48-64 players. but your main thing is your internet speed. That's kinda bottlenecking the system. For the second computer, I recommend it being a file server for your Garry's Mod server for the FastDL. But also, the speed isn't the best, but its only a dual core CPU. And also, you put your graphics card. Thats not needed to run a Garry's Mod server, and also you don't have to put that in there(Just for future reference) With your other questions about your skype and recording, it really isnt possible for us to know, due to it being one of those things where it could work out, or it cant due to tons of reason(lack of resources, cluttered computer, dial-up connection:suicide: )
Thanks for the reply. I'm leaving this here for future reference: By the way, I have no bandwidth limit.
I think the rule-of-thumb is 128kbit/s per player you want to have on, so you're looking at probably 8-10 players before pings start going up, and even less than that if you're gonna be running other things like skype.
Way too low on your upload speed. You should have at least 10-20mbs for optimal speed with a decent amount of players.
For a small amount of players, your bandwidth should be sufficient. Also depends on the gamemode, when there is lot of networking going on, it could get laggy. The upload speed (which is the important for server-hosting) is a little bit low. Just try it out with 8 players and higher the slotcount unless you ain't satisfied anymore.
I have the just about the same upload I get around 6 people when I do host from home. Just remember if you are running a server you need heaps of upload not download.
