Gmod Freezes when choosing Find New Multiplayer game

Been having this problem for a little while now but everytime i start up GMod everything seems normal, then when i choose Find Multiplayer game no servers show up. Also whenever i try to close out the game and restart it, steam says that is already running, however, i cannot find it anywhere in task manager. I have tried verifying game cache, allowed GMod through the firewall, and have tried closing out steam multiple times as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

First of all make sure graphics drivers are up to date (it can still help with issues like this), do you have any antiviruses or antimalware programs? They can cause problems, also have you tried using the legacy server browser? And do other Source games such as TF2 or CSS work?
