HUD is broken in december update

hello i'm new here and i created an account because i really want to get this problem out there.

the hud in gmod is broken, specifically the number keys when selecting weapons and the crosshair. I specifically use dark colours to show the crosshair. I'm using lightshot to show the pictures here

When you load up a stage the crosshair is normal, however when pressing esc to load the menu

pressing f9 to load the console, typing in something totally random, then pressing esc (not resume game) brings it back, but pressing esc, typing in stuff and pressing esc or resume game doesn't work and keeps it hidden

could this be fixed
