I've been playing Garry's Mod for a while unhindered, but after taking a break today I'm unable to launch the game. I get "hl2.exe has stopped working" almost immediately after launching it. I tried validating the game files as well as deleting my lua, bin, cache and downloads folders. I deleted my previous Garrysmod install folder in steamapps/common and I'm having the same problem with a fresh install. I've not had a problem like this for at least several months and I haven't installed any new software on my computer. The only antivirus software I've got actively running at the time of trying to play GMod is Microsoft Security Essentials. It also doesn't seem to be producing any crash dumps. Right now I'm stumped as to what's causing the problem.
Specs:
Intel i5 2500k
14gb RAM
Radeon HD 7700
Windows 7 64 bit
Same issue. Started only today. Validaton/reboot doesn't help.
Same thing. Started today too. Total reinstall doesn't help. Crash logs aren't generating for me either Edit: Just fixed it. What worked for me was I validated TF2.

AMD FX 6300 six core processor
8 GB ram

Validating Team Fortress 2 game files did the trick for me. Garry's Mod works as it should. Thanks for the help!
