Before I explain the problem, here are the specs:
Processor: Intel Celeron 2.20GHz
RAM: 2GB
Model: Dell Inspiron 1545
GPU: Intel 4 Series Express Chipset (Mobile) 780MB
OS: Windows Vista Home Basic
(I know my computer sucks.)
A little backstory too. I was running Garry's Mod fine about two years ago when I actually used this thing, but then I got a virus on it. After a year and a half I finally found out how to fix it, and got the rootkit out. However, the virus really screwed the thing up beyond belief. There's some things on this system that are still screwed. So I finally decided to start gaming again, and got Garry's Mod on this piece of crap. It actually runs decent (with a large amount of VRAM), but there's a problem.
The game randomly crashes to the desktop, why? I don't know, that's why I'm here. Anyway, it is tolerable when I'm playing on Sandbox and TTT, but when I start to play DarkRP it likes to drop my FPS to -15 and crash (if the game doesn't crash as I'm downloading the server's custom files.) I have not tried HL2RP yet, but I expect Catalyst to send my computer back to the stone age. Sometimes the game also crashes when I access the developer console as I'm playing a game, the game freezes for five seconds, then for the final two seconds before becoming comatose any sounds play exactly three times and crashes. This is also common when I'm downloading multiple and/or large files from the Workshop, but there is no warning, it just goes to a black screen and the desktop. Note: With all of these crashes, there are no errors at all from both the game and Windows.
Any help would be appreciated.
Before you ask, I wiped and verified the local game cache multiple times and it still crashes, I re-installed the game and still have this problem.
Having the same problem
This is strange, I checked the cache and it did say 1 file was missing and it was replaced. I do not know which one it is however, I did this a few months back and it said the same thing.
Having same problem
And i only have 9 addons
I thought I was the only one having this problem. Well it's reassuring to know there's more than me having this problem.
I found the problem. It was something really small, but I don't know what it really did. I use -dxlevel 80 on Gmod because it runs faster. This is what caused the crashing. I changed my level to -dxlevel 81 and I have not crashed once and I can use the console in game now without it freezing.
