when i join a server in garry's mod my computer crashes and i have to reboot

Could you please give more information on the issue, else we cannot help you.
For example, crash logs etc.

According to facepunch, you're using a Mac and as far as I know (may not be true) Garry's Mod doesn't support non windows too well.
where would the log be i can't find it since the entire computer crashes not just the game. i've been able to play gmod for a while but then this problem started happening
Either way, try re-installing garrys mod, or disabling all your addons. There's many things you could do to fix the issue
i have reinstalled multiple times and deleted all addons, but thanks still.

Have you actually gone to Steam/SteamApps/common/ and deleted the GarrysMod folder, then ran delete local content on steam, then let it download again and tried?
Your computer seems very outdated (especially for a Mac) to crash the entire system.
Make sure you are using SteamPlay and somehow download the windows version :s
It shouldn't crash the entire system but if none of my guesses are true, than your hardware is defective in graphical drivers, they are out of date, or your system cannot handle gmod.
If you have more than 10 addons, the pre-cache rate is causing a system crash (from the CPU and HARD DISK) might be the power supply unit not being able to handle and causes the system to crash/shutdown. (if shutdown is not the case, ignore anything i said about the power supply unit)
