What does this Error downloading file! [37] mean? Why does it even exist?

37 IOFailure There is no further information available about this EResult value.
IOFailure AKA Input/Output failure AKA Steam failed to read of write either from/to their servers(??) or more likely, your HDD.
[QUOTE=Robotboy655;52095172]IOFailure AKA Input/Output failure AKA Steam failed to read of write either from/to their servers(??) or more likely, your HDD.[/QUOTE] And why does ready to play has to do something with that and why does restarting fix it a bit idk but why? Why does, and why do you know about it?
Maybe its a problem you're having with the drive that steam game is (gmod in this case). Maybe it cant write because it doesnt have enough permissions or either the drive is full.
[QUOTE=geferon;52095269]Maybe its a problem you're having with the drive that steam game is (gmod in this case). The next thing I see is a reply from garry telling us he will fix it. [editline]12th April 2017[/editline] deinstalling fixed it
[QUOTE=Robotboy655;52095172]IOFailure AKA Input/Output failure AKA Steam failed to read of write either from/to their servers(??) or more likely, your HDD.[/QUOTE] Is there another way to fix it? [editline]8th May 2017[/editline] I can only download other addons but the addons that have the issue do not work I need to try to restart again and see if that fixes it, I desubscribed every addon that had this issue, I think the issue is the servers but I don't know how. [editline]8th May 2017[/editline] Can we not summon garry :D to help me or something like because this issue is litarly impossible to fix.
I deinstalled gmod again and it fixed like the half of the addons some addons are still left with the error. [editline]8th May 2017[/editline] So to fix the issue 100% its a bit shit but its the only way I know. Deinstall then restart then install gmod again. Then don't open gmod yet download the addon you want to download just one and then click on it like subscribe it then wait until it installed it then start gmod and it should work then you can add the rest ingame but do it slowly.
Please, Garry.... fix this finally.
There's nothing to fix, it's not a problem with GMod.
Alright, after I've finally came to my final solution here is how it works. The last time I fixed it I didn't mention to delete the downloadcache. So delete the downloadcache then restart and then start gmod. Some mods maybe have their 37 still not fixed but thats not a problem you can still fix it again. To delete the downloadcache you have to delete the game too or it doesn't work.
New issue: The new deinstall of steam deinstalls the whole folder. So we need to find out how to not let it do this.
Why is that a problem exactly? What are you trying to do?

Now today it destroyed my brain and everything else.
That doesn't sound logical at all. What you should first do is test if the same error occurs in other workshop enabled Steam games and contact Steam support about this error.
[QUOTE=Robotboy655;52319406]That doesn't sound logical at all. I just contacted them but I still want to have a working gmod today.
I found a new way to fix it. You don't have to deinstall the game if you have to contact the steam support because it shouldn't be like that. All you have to do is to delete the downloadcache now and restart your computer. After that you maybe have to repeat these steps again if some addons like if you have over 100 some might fail so you have to do it again.
