• Dedi 2012 R2: Friends can't join. Just me.

Hey, currently I have to deal with an unexplainable problem of a Garry's Mod Server on a dedicated Windows Server 2012 R2. (No Homeserver) After the server was set up via SteamCMD, was configured and started, ports were released, etc., I could easily connect to the server via InGame console. Everything works as usual on Linux. The problem: Unfortunately, my friends can NOT connect to the server, either via the InGame console, the server viewer, or through Steam invitation / join. I've already done a bunch of researches on the Internet to find out what's wrong with the server, network or windows installation. Sadly without success. Many thanks for your help! :) All I've done yet. [Checklist] - I deactivated Firewall, to test if there is a problem with ports. - sv_lan is set to 0 - heartbeat - Windows Networkconfiguration IPv4 is brand new. - Reinstalled gameserver a few times. - Also tried with non-administrator user EDIT: (everything in this thread) - added exception for srcds.exe - Asked in Steam community - Asked in Facepunch helpdesk I'm using SteamCMD. Login anonymous. Output on start: http://prntscr.com/fllukj
All I've done yet. [Checklist] - I deactivated Firewall, so I don't have to list all ports I activated.
Bad idea - you want to re-enable that. It shouldn't cause issues with your gmod server. Which host are you using? Can your friends view your game info and see the server when you're in it?
Thank's for your answer, Slowboi Don't worry about the firewall. The firewall was only disabled to test network issues, for some moments.
Which host are you using?
I'm on this kind of server at SIGNALTRANSMITTER.de - Hosting. https://signaltransmitter.de/vps-nvme
Can your friends view your game info and see the server when you're in it?
No. That's the issue.
There's no inherent harm in disabling the firewall to aid in debugging Slowboi, some versions of Windows (2016, etc) block by default and you are required to enable prompts and enabling of services manually. Here's a silly quesion, can your friend's join other gmod servers? Can they connect manually in console if they type connect IPADDRESS:PORT Can someone on here try connecting to his server ip address from his output? I can't exactly play Garrysmod on a phone.
Thank's for your answer, Kris101 For your first question. Yes. Your second question:
The problem: Unfortunately, my friends can NOT connect to the server, either via the InGame console, the server viewer, or through Steam invitation / join.

Thank's for your answer, Kris101 For your first question. Yes. Your second question:
Is your server up 24/7? I can't see it online right at this time.
Thank's for your answer, Kris101 I'm sorry, server is now online again.
Thank's for your answer, Kris101 I'm sorry, server is now online again.
Weird, I can't see/connect to it either.
Some ideas anyone?
I am positive your issue will be the firewall, you need to add an exception for srcds.
Thanks for your answer, The Commander. I added an exception for the srcds.exe as you can see here: http://prntscr.com/fmu9e8 Here's another screenshot, showing that all ports are released for srcds.exe. http://prntscr.com/fmub1b Still the same issues. I can join, but others can't. I'd be very thankful, if someone could solve my problem.
I've got a couple of SRCDS servers on a Windows 2012 R2 machine and this has never happened to me, though it self hosted. Is this server on any local network or has it got direct access to the internet? And if it is on a local network, can you connect from any pc from this network to this server?
Thanks for your answer, geferon. The server has got access to the internet. A gameserver, like Minecraft is working on this server, everyone can connect to this server.
Thanks for your answer, geferon. The server has got access to the internet. A gameserver, like Minecraft is working on this server, everyone can connect to this server.
I did know that it had access to the internet, what i was asking is if it is inside of a local network. And if it has a minecraft gameserver then you should have either port forwarded it or done something for people to be able to connect to it, which you should do the same for Srcds
Thanks for your answer, geferon. Yes. I did some port forwarding of the minecraft gameserver ports 25565. I already have port forwarding for srcds. I added exceptions for srcds. (All ports UDP/TCP) Added 27005-27070 UDP/TCP Added 1200 UDP Is there something wrong with the ports?

Or with a firewall like, another computer?
Thanks for your answer, geferon. I'm port forwarding with windows firewall.
Then that may be why it's not really working, because other than the Windows Firewall you'd have to as well forward the ports on a router or something similar. As this server i'm talking about, is self hosted, it's on a local network that to access the internet it has to go through a firewall machine in which i've got to port forward everything, and this firewall is connected to a router that has this firewall configured as a DMZ Host, so you should check your local network settings and see if there is a router or something in which you've got to port forward.
Thanks for your answer, geferon. I apologize if I have written something wrong. Please remind, that I'm on a host signaltransmitter.de. I have no access to router settings, except contacting customer support.
Well, there should be a way to port forward or anything. How did you do it for the minecraft server?
Thanks for your answer, geferon. I only used windows firewall for releasing ports. That's it. Somehow, this is not working on garrys mod server.
Jesus, do you all live under a rock or something? A host wouldn't just block UDP/TCP traffic like that, and no good host would block ports without request. Also if that was the case - why can he join and not his friends? A firewall doesn't have favourites, and how would the host know to whitelist his IP and why would they even bother causing possible issues with clients servers when security is your responsibility on a unmanaged machine. You also don't port-forward with dedicated servers :why: He said he tried totally disabling W/FW - and that didn't help. So that probably isn't the cause. Ask your friends to run a WinMTR to the server IP - and you do the same, compare the results and if you're totally clueless post the results here; making sure to note which one is yours, and which is your friends. (Also note this will prolly include your personal IP, so if you're tinfoil hat remove that first) Maybe also posting the actual server IP would be useful. Have you actually tried contacting your host? Just to confirm, have your friends been able to join the Minecraft server, and what startup commandline are you using on the gmod server?
Thanks for your answer, Slowboi. This is the output of SteamAPI with this server IP: http://api.steampowered.com/ISteamApps/GetServersAtAddress/v0001?addr=147.135.165.73&format=json
Maybe also posting the actual server IP would be useful.
Server IPv4 adress is still 147.135.165.73.
Have you actually tried contacting your host?
No. Not yet. Should I ask them about problems with a gameserver?
Just to confirm, have your friends been able to join the Minecraft server
Yes. -
what startup commandline are you using on the gmod server?
1 second. Here you go:
@echo off cls echo Protecting srcds from crashes... echo If you want to close srcds and this script, close the srcds window and type Y depending on your language followed by Enter. title srcds.com Watchdog :srcds echo (%time%) srcds started. start /wait srcds.exe -console -game garrysmod +gamemode terrortown +map gm_construct +maxplayers 32 echo (%time%) WARNING: srcds closed or crashed, restarting. goto srcds
Contacting your host is probably a better idea than Facepunch, honestly. I'm shocked you needed someone to tell you that - they should always be your first line of contact with issues like this, as they'll be able to rule out shit which most people will claim it is; like port forwarding, firewalls etc. Tell them; your friends are unable to connect to your gmod server, and that it's using UDP, and they can't query it either, and the queries are on TCP. However the interesting thing is they can connect to your Minecraft server which uses TCP. Note; The most useful thing I asked for was the WinMTR traces, if that's possible they'll narrow down the cause much more realistically than pretending I know the cause is a firewall; which seems like the popular belief right now.
Thanks for your answer, Slowboi.
Can you confirm the server is running right now?
Yes. The server & gameserver is currently running.
Contacting your host is probably a better idea than Facepunch, honestly. I thought, I'm just too stupid, to configure one of my first garry's mod server and searched here for help. I found 2 references + me. Me: https://prnt.sc/fno4y1 Others: https://prnt.sc/fno5h8 https://prnt.sc/fno1qx Very strange.
send your host the WinMTR's too, it looks like the machine might be on OVH using VAC. One thing I've known VAC to do is if not configured correctly it'll almost randomly block people from connecting. I think your host might need to setup the game rules on the port range you're using, so like 27015-27115. It's hard to guess their setup, but that's what it looks like edit: to confirm, I'm confident my suspicion is the cause after doing my own tests > I think your host might need to setup the game rules on the port range you're using, so like 27015-27115. Can you add
+ip 147.135.165.73 -port 27015
to the startup and see what happens
SOLVED: The problem has been solved after a ticket submit at my host: Traffic control for UDP port 27015. I never thought, that this would be the barricade, but everything's fine now. Thanks for all your help. Thread can be closed.
