• Advantages of UE4 instead on source.

Can anyone tell me what's will be the new possibilities with UE4 ? How big would the map be? What about graphics? Will this be a more demanding game?
1. UE4 has more advanced tools that are impossible to program in source due to limitations 2. Better physics 3. Map size won't ne a problem, you can make it as big as you want 4. The graphics are way better than source.
You probably shouldn't expect it to run decent on your 2004 potato, but I feel like performance will be likely dictated by the precise details of a particular gamemode and map. It will probably be more demanding overall, but in general, I feel like it will run decently well even on older rigs. The possibilities are vastly expanded with UE4, we are talking ~10 years of difference in engine development here. Better shaders, better lightning, more techniques to take advantage of, and so on and so forth. The devs are using their experience in developing gmod to avoid old mistakes and provide a better API than the old mess we had in gmod. C#, at the very least, has a vast standard library which already opens up a lot of possibilities that would be a major pain in GMod and Lua with it's limited library. You can probably have propkill if you really want to :^)
OOH OOH, I want to add one! UE4 isn't an ancient engine and it's not cryptic, where you don't encounter a problem every day and when you try to search for a tutorial or a fix it's actually there! Seriously, source is so old and it's hard to find guides or tutorials, let alone fixes that pop up every day or so, I'll choose UE4 over Source any time.
is byotiful
lol I just hope we get propkill by default like on gmod xD.
Source is an old engine, the new one isn't even fully supported the only logical choice was choosing a modern and popular engine that gets you to the ol' discussion about unity vs ue4 UE4 in the end is better for games like sandbox (first person games) the only problem is that you need to work on C++ to add your things into the engine which is really bad because C++ and C#  is better based on a list things garry already mentioned on one of the sandbox devblogs: Load new code at runtime Hotload code while playing Easy to learn and use Reduce coding ballaches End user never touches c++, Unreal Engine or any other SDK
No Map Limit is really bad we're going to get 1.5GB for single map
That depends, it's better making large amazing map rather than a large crappy one.
Mixed feelings about this, hard-limits are perhaps a good idea, but there's so much you can do with Unreal Engine i feel like if limiting it you ruin a lot of its potential. It probably depends on user-created content, but depending on limitations, a user could create a procedural generated map. The limits of source are not in Unreal Engine, and i don't feel we should re-introduce those limits.
Btw here's an example of gta:sa map imported to UE4:
That does not mean that is actually edible map for concept of sandbox
That's a shame, I always wondered how maps tasted like.
Unreal Engine is optimized for crappy pc?
im betting there will probably be a filesize limit for downloads, if not then there will be like 50gb downloads for the inevitable darkrp clones to surface
We have access to UE4
If we can have huge maps then RP will become even bigger. Oh no
If your server can handle those people kek
Huge map would be epic 30 player in a open world map player would get lost in since the map is to big xd
Doesn't sound bad if you want a Mad Max like gamemode.
how about a Derry Town Roleplay ?
I think im more excited for smaller maps with even more detail.
Agreed, Less likely to crash on systems.
Big map sounds good for spacebuild
I actually get better fps on a full 40v40 player match on squad (which uses UE4) maxed out than i do playing gmod with like 10 people and not that many addons.. so if anything i'd say its gonna run better than the old gmod
i could imagine a hunger games gamemode with these huge maps lmao
That is possible because game in start will be just deathmatch . So maybe there can be deathmatch gamemodes and such with rust weapon base, it will be very fun.
WOW that's a good idea, I'm sure it never took off for Gmod because of the map size.
hmm i just realized that gmod always had small maps
