High ping and huge network spikes when running Gmod

For the past 1 or 2 weeks I've been having a massive problem with my ping when running Gmod. Every few seconds my ping would spike from 50 to 800+ for no reason and it seems to be only happening in Gmod.

I've tried renewing my IP address by contacting my ISP and I've tried changing my router settings but I've had no luck resolving the issue and I'm not downloading anything, it's getting VERY annoying now.

Any ideas?

Its since the engine update i think, it randomly sends spikes of random movement packets

Because it's just making it impossible to play.

If you're using Spotify or a torrenting program, try not using them when you play GMod.

I suspected it might have been spotify but even when gmod is the only thing running and nobody else is using my network I still get 500+ ping on any server.
