I just got an HP computer, as an upgrade, with 6gb of RAM, 3.00 Ghz processor, and a nice graphics card (Can run Crysis on max, already tested...), but, for some strange reason in Garry's Mod, I get 15-20 FPS, even on singleplayer. Also, in CS:S, I only get about 30-40... what gives?
Disable vertical sync.
I don't see how vertical sync would lower it to 30-40fps.
If it clamps fps to your monitor, shouldn't it be 60-75?
3.00 Ghz processor
you mean dual/quad, right?

Err, its a dual. Verticle sinc is off...
Maybe turn down the settings?

OR! you could run it in a directx mode like dxlevel 80 or something.
im on dxlevel 80 i get a decent 65-80 fps before i got 15-20.
What's the said graphics card? Most prebuilts which you assume is "expensive" are most likely to come with a good CPU but crap graphics card.
Well, the game runs fine in -dxlevel 81, but I am now having the same problem with Team Fortress 2 and Crysis... RAWR!
Oh, I was wrong about the processor, heres my info copied straight from my dxdiag...

Turn down your resolution, if you are in 1920x1080 your trying to run everything in a HD resolution, which takes most of the GPU's power.
