Open Steam, go to Library and look for the Tools tab. Now look for Source SDK and install that.
Once that's installed, just choose which game you're mapping for and click on Hammer to open up the Hammer Editor.
You'll have to google for tutorials on making your first room and what not.
Thx
Make sure to use a lot of carve tool, as it makes you pro.

The carve tool will ruin your life, one cut on a major surface will mess up your map. The slice tool is pro.
He was using sarcasm :colbert:

I think he may be a noob.
So did you notice that you can play counter strike maps in GARRYS MOD???? It doesn't matter what game you use just make a room and put a player start. I use Hl2 episode 2 simply cause i like it.
Yes.. Yes i am a noob. Sorry, im only 12 and I wanted to start getting into modding and game designing at an early age. Chicken Wings you have a point, I didnt think about that.
I would suggest using Half-Life 2 or Half-Life 2: Episode 2.
Look up some tutorials on youtube or go to interlopers.net and check out the tutorials there on how to make your first room. It'll probably take you a while to get into it, so don't expect to make anything amazing in the first couple months on your own.
When you want to test your map in Half-Life 2, just press the ~ key and type in "map yourmapname" and press ENTER
Once you're finished with your map, go to your half life 2/hl2/maps folder and locate yourmapname.bsp and copy it into your Garrys Mod/gmod/maps folder so you can play it in Gmod.
