• Gmod needs to advanced past the Physgun

The physgun is actually a really inefficient tool when trying to build something. I think it's about time that a new method of controlling objects is implemented. Something like a standard 3d editor has. Like arrows that you can click and drag to move an object on a certain plane, and a wheel you can spin to rotate. Right now, the inefficiency of the physgun really limits your imagination. Anyone else agree? EDIT: Like this... YEAH AND LETS INTRODUCE REAL LIFE HANDS SO WE CAN PUSH THE PROPS AND EVEN LET THEM FALL ON OUR HANDS SO THAT WE DIE FROM PAIN :Dawkins102:
This would help with what you are looking for: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=889029
Thanks for that link, seems quite useful, but I mean something more like the image in the op.
Well to be honest I prefer the physgun. Thank you for the agrees for that statement. I do very much prefer the physgun and I don't want to move on to something that I may find very hard to use (not a very good mind, I'll let you know) but I would be more than welcome to bring it in if we also kept the Physgun.
An interesting idea. So far, best I have now is an E2 which I can lock xyz axis on.
I personally prefer shoving things into place with the physgun, it feels more involved.
The whole point of gmod is the physgun.
I prefer the phys gun. There's just something about it. It's simplistic. Garrys mod isn't meant to be a precise level editor. Use Hammer for precise map editing. Just download the SDK, click hammer, and BAM! You have a 3D level editor.
Things are not always meant to go right or fit perfectly in gmod...half the fun is watching things fail ^^ When when you get bored of that, theres always smartsnap...
There should be a snap to grid option
There should be a snap to grid option
Surprised you aren't familiar with this.
Physgun is what separates gmod from any run of the mill graphic design program. Yeah building without it would be great for some builders, but for me and many others it's a staple part of the game. LONG LIVE PHYSGUN

Physgun Buildmode has a snap to grid thing.
The physgun is what makes gmod, gmod. For precise movements you can use smartsnap and easy precision.

Gmod = physgun = Gmod = physgun.
Percision alignment can do that just fine. Its interface is a bit to get the hang of, but it does just that.
Umm i use Easy Weld and Smart Snap for building . I never weld anything i just clik 1St time adjust it and switch to other weapon. That and Stacker.
Well we wouldn't have to get rid of the physgun per say, just like a "hold x button to bring up advanced build mode" or something for more accurate aligning.
Well we wouldn't have to get rid of the physgun per say, just like a "hold x button to bring up advanced build mode" or something for more accurate aligning.
Really exactly what percision alginment does. It will not by default give you movment axis, but you can easily place them. A combination of smartsnap and PA will do exactly what you want. Percision alignment allows you to place proints, planes, and lines on objects, then move the objects realtive to those points, planes, and lines. Like mirroring a prop accross a plane, or moving a prop by moving one point to another. It is accurate to many point values, discrepancies are usually invisable to the eye.
I like it, but agree with what people above have said. Moreso, the collision of most props limits the imagination IMO, since most things don't fit together that well unless they're simple squares or PHX props.

HEY! PHYSGUN BUILDMODE WILL GIVE YOU A DAMN SNAP TO GRID OPTION! IT'S RIGHT HERE: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=889029 Now stop preaching PA.
Its what makes gmod epic the fucking Physgun.

Gmod is based around building, a 3d editor screen like you suggest would make this too easy and efficient and thus would become boring. your not German by any chances are you...? :slick:300th Post:slick:
lol press shift +e
He said a grid.. A grid goes on x,y or x,y,z not p,y or p,y,r.

OP, someone posted EXACTLY what you want in the lua what are you working on thread. I think he posted his code, go ask in it.
physgun is beast
