Anybody know this guy? Christaster? Is he a known hacker?
Once I join a game, a bunch of errors in Lua files appears in the the corner, and then the spamming begins. I get banned within seconds, and I'm left pissed.
I looked up on google about the situation. A previous thread on this forum said to look in your Lua folder for a weird file, but I'm not entirely sure on what to delete.
Anybody want to give me some insight?
Did you get a new mod recently?
Most recent thing I can think of is the wire construct map, but that's all that comes to mind.

DON'T
Delete your config.cfg in your cfg folder.
I already did that.
Like I said, I deleted all of gmod.
That's what you have to do to "properly" reinstall gmod.
The cfg folder comes back when you get in the game.

Yeah, but it resets itself!
The reason he's wanting you to delete your .cfg is because the virus is probably written in there, so if you delete it, it will reset and fix it.
But spend 4 hours reinstalling if you want...
I read about this guy he creates mods with viruses
One time i downloaded 1 map and i wanted to try it on single player, and then i saw that my name is changed to chrisaster and i couldn't change it back to my own name
He made about 100+ mods and adds not only to [url]www.garrysmod.org[/url], and to all other web pages that you can download gmod stuff from
1 more thing if you looking at the creators name like chrisaster then you won't find it, because he always creates a new name for himself so that other people don't know him and well trick you into downloading his stuff with viruses...
oh and the other name that i download that map from was FtsP well i can't remember maybe it was Etsp

Seriously. What is it with people who don't know how to click "Deafult" in options to reset their keys.
If only we could infect this Chrisaster person....
Wow a lua virus written in 5-10 minutes and you guys can't figure out how to delete it? Anyway if you joined his server delete your cfg folder or change you keys to default like Divran said. Unless you put the virus in to your game yourself, then you have to find the lua file the resets your binds and delete it.

A very easy way to do that: Put the "virus" in a file called "HL3 MAPS!!!" and upload them to garrysmod.org, so all the idiots can download the "virus"! :)

dang... and when i thought it couldn't get worse... that list has atleast a thousand names on it... i am really sick of this... i remember when i was 11 i would play games on the computer with out a worry... now i'm 15 (and it's only 4 years) and i'm playing garrys mod and i almost got a virus that put inapropriate pictures on my comp (thank fully it was in a folder that clearly pointed out that it had that stuff in it so i didn't see them).
And just last week i joined the TnB community because i finally found an rp server that actually had control (i heard of admins that abuse and cps that abuse too but i never saw that) Admins actually helped, ppl actually rped no, death matches, no rdms no, randomly getting beat by cops, and i've only gotten in a random fight by some guy who didn't realise that this was a seriosu rp server and he got banned right after then days later the server entire server crashed and then the next day the site was hacked... i was extremely mad and it inspired me...
i want to get together with some people and start an anti-mingebag server... a rp server that is like the rp servers from gmod 9... a server where people sell pizzas or give hair-cuts... and especially no guns, but guns can be given to trusted people. I my self have never played gmod 9 but i now i wish i could... out of the thousands and thousands of servers out there, there are only a few that are secured and have real rpers or builders... and this server must have a pass so. I know a guy from tnb who used to be able to make a lot of cash from a haircut business... my first (and only job) on that server was a cashier in a pharmacy... but right after i was employed the server crashed and never came bacak on.
I think that we need to make a comunity that can keep good rp servers like this up and running... if anyone wants to we can start a thread for this...
The only thing i'm worried about is hackers and script kiddies... and due to this we need to design something to keep these low life scum away from the joy and pride of thousands of people... WHO WILL JOIN ME!!!... (i'm not really starting anything with that last sentance... it was just for suspence... but if you really want to do something like this then sign me up!)

Nice speech, only this thread isn't about a virus. All it does is unbind your keys. Just click Reset to Deafult in the options to fix it.
i know... but i wasn't talking nabout the virus... i was talking about all the minge bags out there trying to ruin peoples fun.

Go to garrysmod/garrysmod/cfg/ and delete config.cfg.
That file is where all your key binds are stored. If Gmod finds that file missing, it will make a NEW file when you start the game. This means all your custom key binds will be gone, but there's nothing you can do about that.
To prevent this from happening again, right click your config.cfg and make it read-only.
If you make it read only, any binds you make in-game will only last until you restart the game. When you then start the game again, the binds will be back to normal because it then loads the config.cfg again.

I deleted the config.cfg and it still happened.
ya me and kil0y have the same problem
ima try and see if its a temp lua i got
from a server
cause i joind this server that said it had 30 people even when i refreshed
and when i got in there wuz only me so i probaly got ganked that way
