I'm looking to host a server for GMod. I've got a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop 3gb RAM 3Ghz Intel Core2 Duo Windows Vista Home Premium ( very stable =) ) my internet connection based on my computer (in Georgia USA) to Washington DC: Download Speed: 12600 kbps (1575 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 647 kbps (80.9 KB/sec transfer rate) Latency: 40 ms So how 'bout it?
No.
Dang. OK well I am building a computer so are there any links to a list of the recommended specs?
Get a faster internet connection.
you need 100-200Kbps TX (UP) per player
No.
what? again, you don't need ENTERPRISE SERVER GRADE to host some game server or anything really.
It's just gonna be shit.
You can, but it wouldn't be any good. I suppose that's our conclusion.
Pretty much.. the upload speed is what would first kill your dream.
so at best I'd be able to handle 3 players with minimal props?

OK. Another quick question. Can a Garry's Mod server be hosted anywhere or does it have to be a special host?
