I am obsessed with the toy, and I thought I'd bring the brain boggling fun to G-mod, well.. I made everything, I have the core with the color denoting side property (center peices that cant change), and the outer part ( the other 22 block of the cube) BUUT, I don't know of any way to make it turn, I dont want it to be wiremod. I want it to be a legit cube with not external scripts. If someone has come up with an idea add me on steam and help me out. Thank you. steam name : king0demons
unn... Maybe making a NxNxN big cube (where N is the umber of smaller cubes) and then ballsocketing all of them to the center cube?
My only thing against that is.. how do i get the whole row to move? it would only move 1 block
Read up on how a real rubriks cube turns and try to do the same thing in Gmod.
I have one infront of me, and have ripped it appart several times. but doing it that way would require me to make new models...
My only thing against that is.. how do i get the whole row to move? it would only move 1 block
Well if they are able to collide with each other, then you rotate one, then it will move the others in the same row (assuming that the center cube is frozen or something). I'm doing this all in my head so I don't know if it works.
hm.. i can try that.. if not then back to block 1 XD
would be epic if this works. I had a good Cube I could take about. It got stolen, and now my only one sucks at turning, and I can't pop it apart, so I can't even oil/lube it T_T It has been a while since I've put a Cube back together, so I don't really know how you would build one in GMod. Although I think something like the ball socket (maybe even the wheel) made be very helpful
I'm sure it's possible with expression 2 applyForce. But I have a question: How did you get the colors on each of the sides? I might have a go at this too :) Ok I tried to make it, with the help of Expression 2. I failed D: I'm sure it's possible but it's ridiclously hard.
what if you no collided 2 (or 3 for the corners) blocks, colored them, and then stuck them together?
Wouldn't work, because you can rotate each side of the rubriks cube, no? That means the blocks on the CORNERS have to be able to turn in any direction! They have to, like, switch their axises around or something.

So each piece on the cube (besides the center) is actually 2 or 3 blocks, each one being set to the needed color.
The part in GMod that isn't possible is this: I will use "O" as a block and "C" as the center block - The one that doesn't move. And "R" is just a random block that I put in there so you can see when I rotate it. Here's the front side of the cube:
OOO OCO OOR
Now, all those O's are to be welded to the C, right? Well that's all good since then you can turn it like this:
-> OOO OCO ROO <- R moves to the left.
But what if you need to turn it like this?
^ OOO OCO OOO ^ R moves up, to the top side of the rubriks cube, where we can't see it from this direction.
That's when it gets fucked up, because you won't be able to turn it in that direction when all the O's are welded to the C.
I don't mean welded to the center. I meant it as you if you need a corner piece; you spawn 3 blocks, color them to whatever color you need, then no collide them. Then stick those 3 blocks together (so they look like 1 piece) and weld them. Then you ball-socket them, or whatever the idea was, to the center piece

I'm gonna have to buy a rubriks cube and take it apart and look at it. :)
the six center cubes are all connected to each other and form a core. the non-corner pieces hook to the center pieces, and the corner pieces each hook to 2 of the non-corner pieces.
the six center cubes are all connected to each other and form a core. the non-corner pieces hook to the center pieces, and the corner pieces each hook to 2 of the non-corner pieces.
Yes I know they're connected in some way. The problem is how do we re-create it in Gmod?
custom models that have the necessary curves?
I have phx cubes, with the smallest phx plate on it each colored to the corresponding side.. i can post up on a site if someone wants what i have ... and i dont really want to have an expression one. i want it to be a manual turn. because the servers i play on dont allow expression
ROFL. I can see us having rubik's cube competition on gmod servers.....
Lol. Lets not do that.. i just had an idea. i just wont a solution >.> but i guess we can. the idea i like the most wins XD
I got an idea. For a row, make a cube in the middle. Weld all the other cubes in the row to the middle one. Then, Axis the row to another row, etc..
I got an idea. For a row, make a cube in the middle. Weld all the other cubes in the row to the middle one. Then, Axis the row to another row, etc..
How does it turn the other way?
How does it turn the other way?
Oh, didn't quite think of THAT. Oh well. It is too advanced :(
I know that isn't really relevant but I can't think of anywhere else to post it. Is there a way to make locking system like a vault, solve the cube gain access to the vault? Wiremod or not

[editline]11th July 2012[/editline] also you already have a thread for it http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1197205
