I do and it saddens me quite a bit. What I mean is when I go into my server list to look for a multiplayer game all I see is Dark RP this and serious RP that and every other variant of RP under the sun, nothing else except for the odd Trouble In Terrorist Town server. I remember a few years back you could find a plethora of different and creative gamemodes, one of my favorites I remember was this one Noxious.net server where you fought in different arenas with different classes and you could level up your characters, or Watermelon RTS or Garry's Bots. Don't get me wrong, RP hasn't completely ruined Gmod for me, I still love singleplayer and private servers, but I really do miss the old Gmod.

I can, my problem is - like I said - there are no other decent servers, granted I still play a bit of zombie survival every once in awhile. I also stated quite clearly that I miss the old Gmod with the large variety in gamemodes. If I were to filter out the RP servers and look for an interesting server I MAY find one with ~600 ping.
the gmod 13 server browser is a much better server browser experience and makes other gamemodes more visible.
I don't say RP has ruined GMod, it's more like a lack of players trying something new.
It's simple as that:
People know a gamemode, they play it.
If they see a gamemode they don't know they mostly don't bother with it.
If a gamemode has no people playing it, it gets boring regardless how good it is.

RP people often rename their gamemodes to stand out while it's the same in modified.
The RP didnt ruin Gmod its the kids joining faster then the speed of light after gmod 9 cause Garry made childish shit about Gmod 9 like Gman with some weird hats so children started coming - but not the 'normal' children i mean the dumb minge 7 year olds and its tuff to find a server now without gay kids breaking rules and prop blocking - i know a server that handled that problem though he made a English test and made a voice chat restrict to people under 14 years old, the server is running very good and almost no minges, So in my opinion the kids ruined it.
There's plenty of sandbox servers floating around still.
Wow, I haven't seen one of these threads for a LONNNNGG time. It seems like a few years ago, 'Is RP ruining Gmod' threads were posted every other week. Anyway, RP isn't ruining anything - it's not like RP'ers are somehow subtracting from the regular servers. Most of the 'serious' RP'ers are only on Garrysmod in the first place to RP. If RP was to somehow become impossible on Garrysmod right now, those people would just migrate to different games.
The same could be said about many DarkRP'ers, to an extent.

It's not the RP'ers I'm complaining about. Think of it this way; when people start up Garry's mod and they're unsure of what they want to do or they aren't tied to the Facepunch community, which lets be ,honest is most of the playerbase, they'll play whatever at the moment has a decent amount of players and has a decent ping - and is somewhat relevant to their interests - which seems to be as of late *drum roll please* RP servers! And this nefarious circle leaves the other more creative servers empty and undiscovered, eventually dying out. This is why I made the thread.
If that were true, you'd still have to account for both the people who don't like RP and end up leaving the game altogether and the people who don't like RP and end up going to a different server. These two types of people ensure that RP never gets more bloated than it is now. Sadly, it's always going to be here because a lot of the community likes RP. I've admittedly enjoyed some of the better HL2RP servers, and I'm not a fan of most of the RP scene in Garry's Mod.
Basically, it's not been a problem in the past, and it won't be a problem in the future. Some people will still RP, and some people still won't. the only problem is a collective shrinking of the playerbase that has been happening since GM10 was unveiled, though hopefully GM13 attracts new attention to the game.
Please don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against RP, heck I played HL2RP religiously back on Half-Life 2:Deathmatch (when it was relevant) I guess I just miss Gmod 10, or atleast the way things were around its time.

Funny that you should post though MrWhite, because it was because of you I rekindled my love for Gmod, and I plan on playing on that vehicle build server quite a bit when I get back to my home

What do you suggest we do about it? Force people to leave RP servers and play on servers they don't enjoy?
MrWhite, you are definitely on the right tracks.
Whilst I enjoy shitting about in Sandbox, there always is a pull towards HL2RP for me, as it has so much potential. Yet the problem with it is that so many people overuse aspects, as well as minges who don't give a damn about HL2 Lore. HL2RP never ever shows a good balance between Rebel and Metro/Combine, as the owners aren't keeping it in check.
The Rebels are normally just used for solo RP, and rarely interact in the environment.
Combine basically block all entrances permanantly, even the secret areas (which ought to stay secret until a map change or etc.).
Citizens will either engage in RP, or just fuck about with 'havng beebez wit da gurl'. They also have jack shit to do as they can't create a setting.
DarkRP is the main problem, as it encourages the lazy-ass wankers who just change its name and add tweaks. It also doesn't have a good layout for Serious RP, as everything is so damn simplistic.
Yet back in its day, DarkRP was a really good gamemode. Basically RP without limits.
...yeah. RolePlay is just pretty bad right now.
*phew* So anyway, Sandbox is the core of Garry's Mod, and there are always people using it. No need to worry.

I'm beginning to think I wasn't very clear with what I've been saying despite my enormous efforts to be so. Read the thread title and OP then ask yourself where it says anything about asking you to solve a problem for me.
I wouldnt say RP has ruined gmod so much as the RP community has ruined gmod.
The DarkRP community that is.

What I got from this thread is that you're whining about something that's been going on since the transition from Gmod 9 without offering any constructive ideas as to how to change it. There have been quite literally HUNDREDS of threads just like this over the years with the same thing - people complaining about the current state of affairs, offering no new ideas and reminiscing about the 'glory days'. As fun as that is, it gets old.
So, just so we're clear, is that not what you're doing? Or is there actually a point to this thread?

You can word it anyway you want, I still see no rules against "whining about something without offering any constructive ideas as to how to change it". My personal choice would've been "misery loves company thread!" but to each his own. And forgive me if I don't give two shits what you're getting tired of, maybe one day you'll realize the world doesn't revolve around you.
