Yes, it's very annoying. Please help, someone - I get this error (in orange writing, if it makes any difference) on the right-hand side of the screen whenever I use a toolgun. This has been going on since I installed WireMod. Everything works absolutely fine; no problems with WireMod, no graphical glitches with the Tool Gun, nothing. And yet this error scrolls down the right-hand side forever until I switch to something other than a tool gun.
Also I don't get nice effects - anything which basically bends light, like bumpy glass or water, I don't get that effect any more. I used to, but I got a virus and rebooted my hard drive and now I don't get these awesome effects. :(
Finally, water is completely flat, with no bump mapping or anything on it, and looks dark brown from above. When I go underwater, everything becomes very very murky brown; I can't see more than about a foot in front of my face. And when I look at the surface from underwater, it is solid opaque white. All of these graphical issues have only come about since I wiped my hard drive, so it isn't the computer specs. Also when I run HalfLife2, I can see the nice water distortion effects and bumpy glass effects so it's basically only Gmod. I have to run with -dxlevel 80 as a setting for Gmod, else it crashes. But I don't have to have this option for HL2. I guess that's the main problem - how do I fix it? Please help. I am tired of swimming in poo.
I'm guessing you got an achievement from all of those lua errors.
Try removing the toolscreen.lua in wire/client/ and see what it does. If that doesn't work, then remove wire :|
Update gmod. Its been fixed cause garry fucked it up. I don't even KNOW why you havent updated your gmod through steam yet, as it should have. If that doesn't work, remove Wiremod.
How do I update? Doesn't it do it automatically? I'm being a fag, aren't I... :s
Also, any advice on the poo water?
EDITS: Also thanks for amazingly fast replies! And I went to check my achievements and no icons display - I get that stupid triangle circle square that IE does.
Update Wiremod.
I only downloaded it about 2 days ago...
Svn?
Hat?
Hat?
I mean, is it wiremod SVN?
What is that? I downloaded it from wiremod.com so it's a legitimate copy if that's what you mean.
Is it a legit Garry's Mod from Steam?
yes. As is HalfLife2.
Which SVN address did you use to download? Some installs use an old SVN address.
Like I said, I downloaded it from www.wiremod.com. I don't know what this SVN is, I just download the files.
Can you give me an EXACT link? Also, I'm from Wiremod.com, if you want to call it that. Ok, I'm here on behalf of Wiremod.com
Apologies, my mistake - it's Glua.net. http://www.glua.net/downloads.php
Anyone know anything about the graphical problems with light diffraction? On closer look it appears that my Gmod doesn't do bump or phong mapping in general - everything is flat-looking.
Glua.net is the problem. I will get you two links.
http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=688324 if you bother for quality

I would say that SVN is the problem. Whose idea was it to do it with SVN? It's a ridiculously complicated procedure just to download something which I already have. It seems even more inconvenient than Steam itself! I don't understand why the creator can't just upload to garrysmod.org like normal people. A ridiculous waste of time and effort it seems, just to save on downloading times. It would take longer to learn how to use SVN than it would to actually download it over garrysmod.org (if it was permitted to be up there). But thanks all the same, I do appreciate your help but it would require me to set aside a lot of time to read through, and use, that tutorial (with ordinary downloads you can leave it running while you do anything else).
Meanwhile, anyone got any suggestions about the light effects? To put a good example to you - the 'volumetric effect' material, if I remember, bends and stretches the light slightly around the object so you can see a distorted view through it. But with my version, no such effect occurs - it just makes the object almost invisible. I don't get any cool distorting effects like that any more. I used to. But not any more. Any solutions? Please help.
Because Wiremod gets updated so quickly, It would be stupid to upload every version onto Garrysmod.org.
SVN makes things easier :v:

How the fuck is SVN complicated? Jesus Christ, Facepunch is stupid. All you do is enter a URL and right click>update when you need to update it. I say it's easier then downloading addons from garrysmod.org.

And they use SVN because Wiremod gets updated like 2-3 times a day.
I enjoy browsing garrysmod.org for downloads. It is easy, it is interesting, and I hate both steam and now, SVN. People are apparently very protective of the program, or whatever the hell it is. And you're talking about the updating. You sitll have to set the whole crappy thing up before you can use it. It's a stupid idea and a waste of time for both the creator and the downloader.
Did it ever occur to you that it's only updated 2-3 times a day BECAUSE it uses SVN? It doesn't use SVN BECAUSE it updates 2-3 times a day, it is the other way around entirely. If it were hosted at garrysmod.org (which, ironically enough, it is), it would be updated with a big pack every now and then, which is far better than having to find a folder, right-click it, blah blah blah, exit the game if you're playing it, every four hours. How inconvenient is that?!
At the end of the day, you obviously have your opinions on the god-awful SVN set in stone and so do I, so there's not all that much point arguing about whether it's a waste of time or not. Meanwhile, can ANYONE help me with the effects that I keep on mentioning?
Have you ever considered the creators of such addons can't be bothered uploading every single minor change as a new version on garrysmod.org?
People like us don't have enough time to do that - almost every developer in GMod is either in a full time education or a job - normally running a community along with that.

Get off your high horse and help yourself. The method to do so has been posted.
Where has it been posted. Where. I certainly don't see it. Enough about wiremod. Imagine I agree with you all and I have willingly agreed to download SVN. Enough about that now. The next problem is the graphical one.
Add this to your advanced launch options.
-fullscreen -dxlevel
If that doesn't work, set the dxlevel to 9.
Thank you for your help, but I've already done that and it crashes at dxlevel 90. It never used to, but now it does. I suppose I need to reinstall DirectX but I have Googled my brains out and haven't found a thing. Anyone know of any places to download it? Please don't just say things like "The microsoft website, retard" because that is not in the slightest helpful. Please give links! (name-calling is optional)
Um, please can I have help? I don't know how to fix this... :s
Update your graphics drivers. They've obviously not been updated since you reformatted, or dx9 would work.
Wow. An entire thread created and quite a lot of time wasted because I forgot that :O I completely forgot about the drivers! Sorry guys.
[editline]06:05PM[/editline]
Sorry again, I downloaded the drivers and changed my launch options from -dxlevel 80 (the only setting it worked as) to -dxlevel 90, and it still crashed. I removed this option and it still crashed, so I set it back to dxlevel 80 and it works but the graphical problems are the same :( Where can I download DirectX?
Sorry, a thread bump because otherwise no-one will notice that I posted.
directX should come with the drivers, shouldn't it?
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
