• Will Garry's Mod have support for 'Black Mesa'? What do you think?

I think officially there won't be 'Black Mesa' support, but sometime there may be a user-driven initiative to port it to GMod. I know there exists downloadable models of the original Half-Life enemies, etc. but will GMod users, for example, be able to use RT cameras to film the Resonance Cascade is all it's Source-Glory?
Black Mesa Source do you mean?
If it was a poll, I'd vote Yes, Yes, Yes.
It should be possible.
Not natively no, Garrysmod has never supported mods, but there is a module that allows you to mount them like you do with supported games. So it would be possible. Or you could drag and drop the content into Gmods folder structure.
Or someone could pack all the content into an addon, or would that be illegal(read inillegal if you want to laugh). [editline]11:24PM[/editline] In another way, I / someone could develop and application where you insert the models / folder with them, and it would pack a spawnlist for it.
Violates their EULA most likely.
I don't think the second option does, because it will only add the models within the specified folder, and if you don't actually have the mod, you would have to go 'underground' to get its models.
Black Mesa Source do you mean?
It's Black Mesa. Valve asked the developers to remove Source to make it clear it wasn't an official remake.
It's Black Mesa. Valve asked the developers to remove Source to make it clear it wasn't an official remake.
But Black Mesa is on source engine right?
It's Black Mesa. Valve asked the developers to remove Source to make it clear it wasn't an official remake.
that's not very fair.
that's not very fair.
Kinda is.
What'd you think about the second option I suggested, and is the black mesa still running on Source even without it on the name?
Yes. [editline]06:35PM[/editline] fyi you don't suggest questions you ask them.
What'd you think about the second option I suggested, and is the black mesa still running on Source even without it on the name?
Yes.
Ok... I'll look forward into working in the Spawnlist creator... I could actually make it for models and then be used later for Black Mesa. This would be once more, when of my CodeSparing Applications, which would generate the code / spawnlist sparing the modeler some time...
Well...on garysmod.org right now there is the first map of black mesa. So I guess at some point people will port it to maps and model packs in Gmod
that's not very fair.
Not really. It's not made by the company. They have every right to do that.
Not really. It's not made by the company. They have every right to do that.
I was meaning that it is Black Mesa, on the source engine, by not letting them call it Black Mesa Source, it's not as obvious, for example, i didn't realise it was the same thing the op was talking about.

But I mean, it's just a minor setback. People will obviously recognize that it looks HL2ish and running on the Source engine.
Yes they have the right to claim the Source name from it, other wise it would be like someone picking up CS and modding it up to source, calling it CounterStrike: Source.
Yes they have the right to claim the Source name from it, other wise it would be like someone picking up CS and modding it up to source, calling it CounterStrike: Source.
But valve never made a game called Black mesa.
The book title does not change the content (not the original sentence but you get me). [editline]12:04AM[/editline] Black Mesa looks like and alt title for Half Life :|
If you really want to specify, you're allowed to call it "Black Mesa: A Half-Life 2 modification" kinda awkward though
I wonder... will 'Black Mesa' cost the same as HL: Source? Or will Valve request it be slightly more expensive, because it might end up outselling HL Source?
Copy the models/materials/maps/sounds etc into a new addon, create your own spawn list/wait for someone else to make one, Black Mesa support done.
I wonder... will 'Black Mesa' cost the same as HL: Source? Or will Valve request it be slightly more expensive, because it might end up outselling HL Source?
Unless they have a license for it I doubt valve will let them sell it.

It breaks the license agreements you accept when installing a SDK. The only reason GMod is for sale is because Garry has a deal with VALVe, and it is now considered a full game.

Even if it is free, I may donate to the developers anyway - because they have done some great work.
