• How do I Garry's Mod

'Day. I've had GMod for about a year, and I've only played it for 3 hours. Yes. I confess. Three hours. Not because it is a bad game, no, I quite enjoy it, however, I have no idea what do do. I understand that you press Q and you get to put in little men that run around, but that's pretty much all I have got from it. I go on online servers and I see people flying around in Bathtubs shooting rainbows and binary code from their arses, and as much as the internet is...great, nothing really showed me what to do. I see all these Machinimas, Videos, Poops, etc. and wonder how they even do that. I possess most of the textures etc. from Half-Life, CS and the like, but none of those have really helped me. And with the Toybox now gone - the only place where I could actually put 'cool' things in, it seems I can't have much fun. Please don't take this as a rant. It is not. But, seriously, how do I Garry's Mod. --------- EDIT: This is not a 'Oh god, take me through everything step by step so I can be banned'. Thanks.
One good way to learn is too, Youtube tutorials. Since its a Physics game which...involves physics to a certain degree. Everything is possible to be made. Want a bathtube that can fly? Spawn a bathtube, connect wings, thrusters and give it a go. You just got to spend time looking at all the functions, controls and tools that each thing does to know what it can be used for. One of my first videos I watched an made was a Catapult. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hct6MvNDVag Sure the video is 2008 and using an old version of gmod but the function is the same. Very simple. Practice makes perfect and with time you can make something in your own way.
Experiment with the stuff that you get in the tools and fool about with the props. You could also perhaps make poses too.
In addition to what's been said: Join some small build servers and observe people. They'll usually make stupid stuff, but it teaches you a lot.

I understand LUA is much used in GMod, but I know nothing of it, in fact, I seemed to remember the first time I heard of it, I thought it was a new brand of Stilton Cheese. I assume, whilst LUA is...er...recommended, it isn't essential, yes? Also, I managed to make Gordon Freeman smile. Success.
Lua is just coding to make Tools for others to download and do w/e the author created it for. If you yourself just want to build then forgot about learning Lua. Maybe I should of posted this, http://wiki.garrysmod.com/page/Tutorials/Sandbox Here you should be able to learn slow but quick on some things. Mainly "Using Tools" then if still not sure, pick a tool and either Google, Youtube or ask here for what that tool does. *Recommend Youtube

you seem to take advice well and act friendly, plus your typing is fine and you're pretty funny
