This has been tested for hours and I've gotten a decent amount of players to play.
It's called "[u]Advanced Human RP[/u]" at the moment.
[b]A quick run-down:[/b]
- It is run by humans in total, and has no script, but is run [b]strictly[/b] by police and admin.
- You can become a shop owner after spending a certain amount in the server.
- Shop ownership can only be attained through evaluation through being an employee.
- Vacant shops get locked by admin.
- You can be a part of the Police Department after [u]x[/u] amount of hours in server, and loyalty.
- Money is non-existent. ([b]Check below.[/b])
- Arrests are made if the police say so, and failure to follow him to jail result in a 5 minute ban. (Change?)
- Apartment ownership is gained through Town Hall, or an admin. [b]Your spray must be on the exterior.[/b]
- The more players, the better. Three people would make it impossible to run a city. (Big disadvantage!)
[b]Here's the weird part for you dedicated RPer's.[/b]
Money doesn't exist. In order to play, you must forget about constantly getting money!
Power in the city is attained by loyalty, stock, (See below) and property ownership. (Hard to attain.)
Opposite from the traditional RP server you may join. Admin and the PD will control how much stock is flowed each day. (Real-time) If an admin finds a thief, he will be jailed - or else: BAN.
[b]Jail:[/b]
- Players who have performed a criminal offense will be jailed for a minimum of 5 minutes. This can be increased depending on the crime.
[b]"What can get you jailed?"[/b]
- Stealing stock. It's considered "system abuse" and two offenses of it result in a permanent ban.
- Killing
- Not registering for a house or apartment
- Falsely claiming property or stock
[b]How do shops work with no money, hmm?[/b]
This is where you stubborn RP kids need to learn to adapt to a new system.
As more and more players join the server, admin will create an appropriate amount of stock (props) for the shops. (Apt. decor., trade items, furniture, etc...)
Besides that, shop owners have a certain amount of stock they are in charge of. It is unhealthy for the server to repeatedly spawn more objects, so if you run out in less than an hour, (for example) they will be jailed for a while, jailed for a few minutes, and the shop will be locked for about an hour.
Moral: Be smart with what you let players have.
[b]What is it based on then?![/b]
It is based on attaining as much as you can for yourself, and earning a place as a respected citizen. (SelfishRP!)
That's about all I have for now. Like I said, it's a brand new idea, and we've learned to control the way it woks pretty good by now. In this RP server, players can't just leave and go AFK and get billions of dollars.
This requires cooperation, and open minds.

This could quite possibly be as close to real roleplaying as Garrysmod will get. No script, no money, no controlling forces other than the players. Good luck getting people to co-operate though.

But surprisingly, I've actually had a handful of people at a time come in and have fun with it.
When you first join the server, the players see a list of rules. One of the rules say:

That's the best I can give 'em, so if they don't cooperate - they can say goodbye.

Yeah I do tend to check out new RP servers that are trying something different. Like the LightRP experiment someone ran the other month. Makes a change from "L0l gif all mny and u dun di3zzZZzz"

That's exactly why I want to eradicate the "system" of money.
Here, players are responsible for what goes on in the shops.
But this also means police need to keep their asses on guard all the time.

Any RP script, no matter how "simple" it claims to be, restricts roleplaying in some way. But having an actual player in control of the game (just like the dungeon master or game master in tabletop roleplaying games) eliminates the need to use a script to control roleplaying.
I'd like to see this idea used somehow. Are you planning on launching the server anytime soon?
This does seem promising, but I will need to see progress and screenshots soon if I am to take it seriously and maybe join the community.

That kind of relies on the users to be trustworthy with the money amount in their names too much. Money scripts rarely have typos or cheaters, but you can't rp finding money or being rich easily.

Yeah, it requires a lot of trustworthy people.
It's not so much he admins, but the police. Police are the ones I'm most concerned about.
They need to make sure no one abuses the system, and as long as they do that, than it should be fine.

Actually I forgot to mention that.
In this RP server, the shelves in the Gun Shop actually have weapons on them and the shop owner will be safe behind a locked door, and glass. The Gun Shop owner uses his Phys Cannon and gives it to them through the window. So now you don't just look at some stupid NPC and you can rob him.
Be warned - the Gun Shop is the most popular criminal hangout, and they always try to rob him.
Like I said though: locked doors and glass.
The weapons [b]always[/b]respawn.
This is why the Gun Shop owner isn't allowed to just give out every gun to every person.
(Someone suggest a restriction idea, or something...)
So yes - there are weapons. Every one of them, but they're not easy to get.
Restrick OP weapons like the RPG ,Slams, PARA,etc. Have only blunt,melee weapons and handguns.
This reminds me of this RP that two of my friends and I did... It is basically the same exact thing you said but with less RP. This was also before we discovered DarkRP.

Also just wanted to let everyone know something about the spawn.
When you first spawn, you have almost every weapon, but the only way into the city is through a weapon stripper.
You can pick up a gun at the Gun Shop if a teller is available.
Remember: this game runs on real-time, and if it's 5 in the morning, he may not be there.
So pick a hotel room and AFK. =]

Damn guys. I suffered quite a blow today.
I literally had a hacker who goes by the name of "Plex" come in and start spawning things everywhere.
As funny as it sounds, it wasn't. I spent a long time working on the setup - even for the beta!
