Cant open console

I have ticked 'Enable developer console (~)' but i cant open it, i assume it opens with the '~' key as i cant see an option to change it?

Please help, having so many problems with Garrys mod im virtually ready to give up with it already :(

What if he has a non USA keyboard?

I am using a non US keyboard and the only '~' is shared with '#'.
Could it be Garrys mod just doesn't like my laptops keyboard?

Two ways of doing it:
One (already mentioned by FlapJack)
1) Go to garrysmod/garrysmod/cfg/config.cfg
2) Type "bind k toggleconsole" at the end of the file on a new line. (You can replace k with any key you want to use)
3) Launch GMod and push K

Two:
1) Right click Gmod
2) Properties.
3) Set Launch Options.
4) Type "-console"
5) Launch GMod
(Optional: 6) Type "bind k toggleconsole" into the console)
