I have a 1440X900 monitor, but the default Gmod screen resoultion is something like 1040X900, so when I open Gmod up it's always 1040X900. So I change it to 1440X900 and close the game (I don't play because I know that if I crash the settings won't save) and load it back up, but the resolution is back at 1040X900!
This does not happen with my other valve/source games; they start at 1040X900 but stay at 1440X900 when I tell them to. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Check your launch options and cfg folder. It could be that you've set it to launch in 1040x900 or have a autoexeg.cfg file that does it.
Thank you. I'll check that now and report on if it works in a while.

I have the same problem, with mine I go into Gmod change the resolution and aspect ratio then close it, open it again and it has changed back to a default Res and Ratio. I have checked the autoexec.cfg with not luck. There was nothing in there at all. Did you have any luck fixing it?

Right-click Gmod in Steam Games list > Properties > Set Launch Options > Type in "-w 800 -h 600" without quotes > Click OK
Replace 800 and 600 with whatever res your monitor is/you want your game to run at.
Or click Apply, not the "X" button.
It sometimes happens, though. Check every CFG in the CFG folder and see if there is anything about resolution.
Or Corky's post might be helpful, too.
