What game should I have installed to play Garry's mod?

If yes, What is the difference between Half life 2 and Half life deathmatch?

You need Half Life 2 for it to work, Half Life 2 Deathmatch won't.

CSS has a lot of stuff for Garry's mod... but any source game would do.

For the most content, get the Orange Box and the Source Multiplayer pack. If you just want to be able to play GMod with a few missing textures and models, get CSS and Episode 2.
