So I did all the port forwarding for Gmod a while ago and I could make a server (e.g create game through gmod menu) and my friends could join and everything was good. However... I stopped playing for a while and have recently formatted my PC, although the ports are still fine and stuff, I don't remember how I got my friends to join.It worked before so I know everything is set up fine, I just don't remember how I got them to join... thanks
For lazy people: How do I get my friends to join a non dedicated server I put up via the main menu (create game)

Isn't it just by typing connect <your ip>:<port> in the console?
