• Can't Host A Multiplayer Server
    27 replies, posted
I have been trying to create a server for a long time now and no body can see or join my server. I can't do it with dedicated either. A long time ago I was able to host with ease, we switched the router with a wireless one and since then I have not been able to host. We have the normal wired one in now and it still won't let me. I've tried enabling the ports numerous times. Happening again since we switched to wireless router
That is very weird, usually enabling ports would work, make sure that it does not work by trying with a friend. It's probably not a firewall issue but make sure anyway. That's about as much as I can tell you.
My firewall is always off.

Is there a certain way I need to forward the ports or something? Shit, I just forgot the port number again... Edit: Oh it's 27015 and 27020, right?
27015 To 27020 |Both|
should work, but it doesn't...
Try two seperate ones Start : 27015 End : 27015 Start : 27016 End : 27016 UDP on both, I believe.

where do you forward ports in your fire wall?
where do you forward ports in your fire wall?
http://192.168.1.1/Forward.htm or http://192.168.1.1/Forwarding.htm May be different, I think it depends on the router. Also, we just changed the router to the wireless one, now I forwarded those ports on it and it still will not allow me to host.
Bumpity bump bump, bumpity bump bump, look at Frosty go.
I am having the same issue. I have read through Sean C's guide, and I have searched all over this forum. I have disabled my firewall, and forwarded every single port that was recommended (27000,27011,27015,27016,27020,1200). I have enabled both "TCP" and "UDP". I even set up a static IP address. My server is stuck in LAN and will not display under Internet. Any further suggestions? Or am I boned? Edit: Sorry for double posting, but no one has replied to this thread with any suggestions... Let me throw in some more details then. My server's IP address is 192.168.1.100 port 27015. I am able to see it in my LAN tab, but no one is able to see it or connect to it. The thing that strikes me is this. Shouldn't the server have my computer's IP and not my gateway's address? When I go into my router's page, and look under status my IP is different than the IP displayed in IPCONFIG. I've been trying for several days on my own to get this working... any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. My router is a linksys WRT 54G.
Yeah, bump, this problem is really pissing us off.
I have a Linksys WRT54G too, Firmware Version: v1.00.6 Stupid piece of shit... Edit:
I am having the same issue. My router is a linksys WRT 54G.
You are positive that it has sv_lan set to 0 in-game?
Absolutely positive. I even tried a supposed "fix" someone posted about setting the sv_lan to 1 in the server cfg file, and then using the heartbeat and sv_lan 0 in game. It did nothing. I even tried without my router hooked up...and I was getting the same issues. Only difference was it was giving the correct IP and not the 192.168.1.100 and not the 127.0.0.1. My friend would try to connect but he got the "server is not responding" message. I'm going to tinker around with it some more with my modem hooked up directly. If somehow I get it to work, then I'm bringing this router back. Edit: Update! It works without my router hooked up. This didn't work before but for some reason its functioning now. I still cannot figure out why my router wont let me connect though. Edit: Well, I think its the router. No, I KNOW its the router. Joscpe's issues began when he got the WRT54G, and my server will only run if the router is not hooked up. I'm going to bring this router back, and get a new one. Anyone have any suggestions? What routers are you guys using? Do they work well with online games and Gmod?
Don't listen to those retarded internet guides. They tell you that you need to forward a shitload of ports which are unnecessary. You only need port 27015 on both TCP and UDP (TCP is used for RCON.) if you have the dedicated server on some other port, you only need to forward that port with TCP and UDP.
Kind of figured that out when I was tinkering with it. But it doesn't matter anyway, since the router just won't let me run a server of any kind, no matter what settings I have enabled or disabled. But just in case I'm a complete imbecile, does anyone here have the Linksys WRT54G wireless router? And if so, are you having the same issues? If you are, let us know, and if not, please take the time to post your setup so that we may try it.
Install the server manually flowing these instructions: http://www.fpsbanana.com/tuts/2046 Then foward these ports on your router and/ or firewall: 27011 TCP - This is for your server to show up on steam 27015 UPD - This is your server's port. Takes a while but practic makes perfect. Be sure you change: garrysmod\cfg\server_cfg.txt to server.cfg That guide above didn't bother to mention it Edit:
Kind of figured that out when I was tinkering with it. Among those being the totally wrong ports, there is no such thing as UPD, it's UDP. You only need to forward 27015 on UDP and TCP, all other ports are never used by the server and are just being a extra hole for hackers to exploit.

I'm going to try the "hldsupdatetool". If for some strange and unknown reason it works this way, I'll be sure to let you know.
I have a Linksy Router model no. WRTP54G and its wireless(my dads main router,i'm connected to it via wireless) but it won't let me host server I put it on sv_lan 0 and still all of my friends don't see it whe i try hosting a server! please help
I'm not going to pretend that I'm an expert on the matter, but a lot of us who own the WRT54G or similar routers have been having trouble. I suspect the router for one reason or another doesn't like Garry's Mod, at least when it comes to hosting online games. I never had any issues joining online servers though. I'm going to try out a different dedicated server, and tinker with it for a while. If it still won't work with my router hooked up, I'm going to get a new one.
I can confirm what GiGaBiTe has said. The only ports you need to open and forward to your local ip address are 27015 UDP and 27015 TCP (both incoming). I have no ports open for outgoing gmod traffic. This assumes ofcourse that you're using the default port configurations in GMod as I recall you can change the port the server is listening on. The console command "status" should be able to show you the current port. If this does not work then: 1) Most cheap ISP's block ALOT of ports to keep their clients from running servers on their home computers. 2) Some firewalls block high-ports no matter what. You could try looking up that command for changing the listening port to something else and try a port number such as "1337" and then tell the clients to connect to you using the console command: "password <the_password>; connect <your_outer_ip>:1337". High ports start at either 16384 or 32768, I'm not entirely sure. 3) You might also be able to test if the port is open and forwarded properly by connecting to it using telnet. How to do that: Start -> Run -> "cmd". You should now see the console window. Type "telnet <ip> <port>" where <ip> is the ip of the gmod server, and <port> is the port it is currently listening on. Press enter. If you get a black screen or, perhaps some random text (the server sending you some data) then it means the ports are ok and the gmod server accepted the connection. If it however says the connection could not be established then it means someone is blocking it. Edit: to get out of the telnet application, in case it get's stuck, you can try: "exit", "quit", "bye" or Ctrl+C. If that won't do it, simply click the X in the top right corner. Edit: also, you need to know the difference between the ip your router has and the ip your local computer has. The NAT service hides multiple computers under the same ip given by your ISP. If you were to connect your computer directly to a one port adsl modem and the modem was set to Bridged mode you would recieve the ISP ip. If it was set to Routed mode it usually means it will turn on the NAT service which gives you an ip address such as 192.168.1.100 while the outer ip looks something like 84.248.10.90 (could be pretty much anything). To figure all this out, go to the website www.whatismyip.com to recieve your outer ip. This is the ip the clients need to use to connect to your gmod server. Then, open the console: Start -> Run -> "cmd" -> Enter. You should now see the black console window. Type "ipconfig" and find something that says "Ip Address". The address most likely looks something like 192.168.1.100. This is the ip of your local computer. If it's the same as the one recieved from www.whatismyip.com then it means you're connected directly to the internet and there is little or no protection between you and battlezone. Meaning, you should be able to run a gmod server with no problems, but, your computer is probably full of viruses too :v:
Bump i really need help with putting up a server
!!! READ VERY IMPORTANT!!<-ANSWER I created an account here just to tell you, and everyone else since this is first response on a google search I HAVE THE SOLUTION!! I struggled for a year, bought new routers but in the end, I found the answer and almost shot myself. 1. Go here What Is My IP Address? - IP Address Lookup, Internet Speed Test, IP Info, plus more Trust me I'm goin somewhere with this. 2.copy and paste IP (don't care where) and :27015 at the end. If you think your IP is 192.168.blah blah your wrong 3.Then add connect before that. should look like this (connect ##.##.##.##:27015) (please don't be retarded the # represent the numbers) 4.Give this code to somebody and have them put it in console ~ 5.After that it'll show up and other people will join...ENJOY!!! You still have to have your ports forwarded 27015 UDP/TCP. And thats it. The hell is over. PLEASE LEAVE MESSAGE IF THIS HELPED/WORKED.
You made an account just to bump a thread from '07... You want a fucking cookie or some shit?
Hmm, I just recently started having trouble with my servers. I've tried both Listen and Dedicated, they pop up but when my friend joins he gets dropped after 4 retries. I do have my ports 27015 forwarded on TCP and UDP. That can't be the problem though, because they've been the same for months and my servers worked fine up until a few days ago. Anyone have an idea on what's going on?
