i have just gotten gary's mod and after an hour of on it i wanted to add some sweps or something but i have tried many add-ons but i cant get any to work i have been using winrar to un zip files and place them in the area need if it say the area .
I all i want to know is what i do
First you want to check the date of the SWEP. If its older than a year, I doubt it will work.
Secondly, open the folder you downloaded and search it for a file called info.txt.
IF the folder does have a info.txt file, move that folder to:
C:/program files/steam/steamapps/*your steam name*/garrysmod/garrysmod/addons.
IF the folder does not have an info.txt file, move the main folders (lua, models, materials, sound, addons, etc.) to C:/program files/steam/steamapps/*your steam name*/garrysmod/garrysmod.
IF the mod does NOT work, read the readme.txt.
IF the mod does NOT contain a readme.txt, contact the creator.
IF you cannot contact the creator, the mod is a badly packaged one.

OK i did what you said but it still does not work, this time i tried the npc thing on the front page but it has shown

Maybe you are extracting it to the wrong folder, most likely.
i wish the things had more detail on were to put it it just says addon so i put it in the addon folder but it just wont work
You are obviously doing it wrong.
It really isn't that hard if you have half a brain.
