I can't kill NPCs with certain weapons

If I try to kill a human or combine npc with a shotgun, pistol, sub-machine gun, or combine assault rifle. All my drivers are up to date, I have no viruses, and I have direct x level 9 graphics card. HELP

i had this problem for a while.... but i had to reinstall gmod for another reason and it fixed this
