Hello Facepunch, I installed Garry's Mod again, that is my game crashes after 10 minutes to my desktop. Before the uninstalling and installing the game again everything was fine, i don't know what causes it so here is my PC Specs 1,5 GB ram (1 GB and 512 MB) Unknown CPU Type ( D:) MMX, 3DNow, 2,2 GHz ATI Radeon Sapphire 1650X PRO 512MB Help would be really appreciated. EDIT: Also the operating system is Windows XP 32-bit My addons are: Wire and PHX and gamemodes: Chimera Hunt, DarkRP and GModRP from SVN
Do you get any sort of error message when you crash?
Do you get any sort of error message when you crash?
I don't If i would i'd propably post it.
Maybe it didn't install properly. Verify game cache
Maybe it didn't install properly. Verify game cache
Didn't work, but thanks.
Is it one server that it crashes on or is it any multiplayer game that you're not hosting?
Is it one server that it crashes on or is it any multiplayer game that you're not hosting?
Every server I join. I also saw this happen when i'm doing something. Like pressing ESC or just walking.
Try cleaning Gmod. Get your "garrysmod" folder (the one that contains the addons folders, etc, not the one that contains another garrysmod folder) and rename it to "garrysmod old". Then load Gmod. It will act like a fresh install that has no addons. See if that fixes the problem when you're walking/pressing esc/whatever
Well, it didn't help but thanks... Anyway, I saw this happen on single player too. And TF2 but rarely. All I can say is: "God damnit, my PC sucks" D:
It seems a lot of people have been reporting random crashes with Windows XP. If you really want to play, you might wish to think about moving to 7
It seems a lot of people have been reporting random crashes with Windows XP. If you really want to play, you might wish to think about moving to 7
I have XP and I'VE never had any random crashes.
Sadly, I am getting this every 10-15 minutes. I didn't get crashes in TF2 or something else, just in Gmod. Tried fresh install, tried to verify cache, but everything seems fine. I just randomly crash, it doesn't happen when I do something particular.. Just, crash. Suddenly. Anyone has any Idea? SYS Specs: Athlon II x4 620, 3Gb Ram, EAH4850 1gb
Mine worked perfectly after i cleaned out gmod. it started lagging in singleplayer, then i couldn't join or make a multiplayer, then my other steam games (CSS, DOD, TF2, L4D,) all started lagging. I cleaned out gmod to lower my RAM usage, and suddenly, problem solved.
After crashing three times in 20 minutes, I am starting to get sick of this problem :< Sent the crash .mdmp files to Garry, I hope he will one day fix this thing :\ Till that day, any new Idea? I tried the -heapsize command (No changes) and compatibility with older OS (No changes). HAlp us. D:
Gmod has been crashing since the Earth's been spinning! And Garry might want to do something about it instead of sitting on his ass making new thruster sounds! And on the TF2 topic.Since the Halloween update I have been getting freeze crashes about 10-15 mins into the game!It just freezes and after 5 minutes of presssing Ctrl+Alt+Delete it would crash the game giving me this error message "Engine error.Ctrl+Alt+Dlt pressed"(I have never gotten such an error even after pressing the Task manager button combo).Seriously....WTF!
So many people with unhelpful responses o.o When your gmod crashes after 10-15 minutes, does it crash faster if you rejoin the server immediately? Could be a memory leak or overheating hardware. You say it also crashes in single.. does it take the same 10-15 minutes or does it take longer? And also, are you spawning any specific props/sents or loading any icons at the times of the crash? Spawning icons tend to cause random crashes. And certain models/effects can cause crashes when using dx8 hardware mode. Have you ever used -dxlevel 80 or 81?
My game crashes when loading a map. Gmod 9 doesn't even crash this much...

If I stand on flatgrass for one hour it could not happen, or could happen when I start it. In multiplayer, usually, the rule is More players More crashes for me. I did crash sometimes when loading icons, but that didn't pop up as a "Memory access violation", and that's a common issue :P I just crash. No wonder why. I tested to change the -dxlevel too, but that didn't solve anything, so I just brought it back to what it was. EDIT: Also, it's the only game that does this. Even COD:WaW or F3, and other memory-eating applications like 3DsMax won't crash me like that. EDIT2: Also, contacting steam support..
I am disappoint. Then we can ask only Garry..
when you uninstall, did you delete the gmod folder manually?
I did.
Hey, not sure if this has been said anywhere (I did read the thread though) but have any of you tried updating your GPU drivers? I'm doing it now.

You may actually be onto somthing, there. From what I see all the people with issues are people with ATi cards, such as myself. Could it be an issue with Catalyst?
I had an Nvidia card before this, it had the exact same issue. I changed my CPU too, and it still has the same issue.
What about your DirectX software? What version you running?
Have you tried doing -dxlevel 90, running the game once, then exiting and removing -dxlevel 90. When you re-enter the game, your hardware will stay on dxlevel 90 but you can change your graphics settings. I used to get memory based errors from random models and effects in-game, but they stopped (or at least drastically slowed down to rarely happening) after doing the above.

I also have a problem, I usually make a client-side server so my friends and I can do stuff together but each time someone joins, it crashes. Or if it's not after the 1st person, it's usually after 2nd-3rd persons. And it's not my PC, in the past I used to have 8 persons on my server without crashing. What could it be?
