How do you view scenery/objects from a far radiius?

I can't explain it, on some large maps with vast openness I can see certain buildings and objects when I get closer to it but if I move back farther away they just unrealistically disappear out of thin air. Does anyone know how to make your players perception just as vast as the maps openness in terms of visibility? In simplest terms, is there a script that allows me to view all objects, entities, etc. on the map from a far distance?
I remember a few years ago there was something that tweaked this but I forgot the name of it. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think LUA could achieve this. It probably has to do with the Source engine.
It's up to the mapper when they make a prop or something will fade to help your fps or it could be the mapper used a small amount of fog.
