I'm redoing this old game for the Fretta contest. The rules are simple (so far): [list][*]Smash props for cash. Certain props are worth more money than others (ie. Plasma TV's, etc.). [*]Get combos for additional cash and powerups (maintain a combo by breaking consecutive props with a maximum of 3 seconds between each prop breaking). I need ideas for powerups still. [*]Use the tractor beam gun to pull props to your side, or use it as a weapon for smashing props into other players. Killing enemies means you have to pay their hospital bill, but if an enemy is on a combo streak then they drop all their combo streak cash. [*]Props are continually spawned into the map by special entities (in the map i've made, the props spawn and are sucked down tubes and spit out into the pits). Sometimes a special prop will be spawned, such as a crate full of cash, or dynamite that you can whack to ignite. So i've finished the basics. There are 3 bonus props so far. [list][*]Dynamite - Whack it to ignite it, then step back and let it explode a bunch of props. [*]Gnome - Jumps around hella fast. Is worth $5000. Good luck catching him. [*]Cash Crate - Once broken, a bunch of cash flies out.[/list] I haven't done any powerups yet. I'm also considering adding a "Captain Asshole" feature. The player with the most cash on a team will be given a revolver and doesn't have to pay for hospital bills.
wut about a pickpocket, it lets you steal money but while using it your health is cut in half
My question is: why should I play this over something like cactus? In cactus, everything is moving and colorful, whereas here it's just a bunch of props (with some gnomes and such). I pose this question as something to think about.
because they're both pretty different games. cactus is a free for all about grabbing small cactus props that are bouncing all over the place. this game is about teams grabbing the most props and smashing them, while trying to achieve combos in order to multiply your team's cash. cactus is generally pretty linear, there's like 3 types of cactuses and all you really do is run around holding down mouse2 and hoping a cactus falls in front of you, whereas this gamemode is polished and earning points is more satisfying (i've implemented a custom gibbing system so every prop has its own gibs). once i have added more custom prop types and powerups i'm sure it'll be a lot more interesting and fast paced.
This looks great. It stands a good chance of winning the Fretta Competition! Good luck to you! How about a magnet powerup? You can hold a key to pull props closer to you, but this will drain health (or possibly even cash!) when you do it. It might just be worth it to grab the gnome!
i'll toy with the idea. i want to have powerups based on tiers you reach by upping your multiplier. so if a player with a 20x multiplier cashes in, he gets a powerup that's more potent or something. i have yet to brainstorm many powerups, but here are some i'll probably add. [list][*]Invincibility [*]Speed [*]More jump power [*]Faster crowbar swinging [*]Health insurance (you get paid cash for killing enemies rather than having to pay money) [*]A revolver with only 6 shots [*]Doubled health [/list]
this game actually sounds pretty cool.
