Npc control - How do i get them to march in a straight line?

I know this is a odd question but its one thing i can never seem to get right. The npcs just cluster around the waypoints.

with the npc controller you could place your own waypoints. but its kinda annoying having to get out your tool gun constantly to get them to move.

or i think wire has a npc crontroller. something along the line of expressin chips?
