• Host_Error: Overflow error writing string table baseline LuaFilenames

Okay, this error has been plaguing my server for 3 re-installs now. It's REALLY pissing me off. Any idea what would cause it? It happens under XP too. Don't make this a flame war about it. Oh, this always happens when players join, and after the server has been up for 15+ minutes.
That error just means "TOO MANY LUA FILES" If you lower the amount of lua files you will see that error less often... (sacrifice some addons) maybe wire?
Well, me and my friends usually use Wire, so..yeah..I'll try removing stargate instead.

My server can run 250 addons with no problems. Although, it IS running Linux :ninja:

Happens, if a player joins and disconnects/crashes then before he spawned on the server. For this, you also need much lua file installed. Oh, and by the way, remove the hidden .svn files from the folders. They just make GMod slow.
I had this error too, remove RD2 and it should fix.
But I need it for stargate and overloader :( .
Sorry for this huge bump but I have this problem and it's driving me mad. I have searched all over for a solution to no avail!

[url]http://forums.facepunchstudios.com/showthread.php?t=611508[/url] The fix is to not use every addon from garrysmod.org :v: Delete all your addons that do not come with gmod then reinstall them in order of importance. (All those dumb admin sweps and sents last.) A quick fix is delete stargate and lifesupport. (The addons like it too)

I know because a friend of mine has like 10 addons tops on his server (including WireMod) and we get the crash almost everytime a third person joins. EDIT: Sorry for this bump but the problem still exists and the solution of deleting Wiremod is just unacceptable. I'm not trying to flame or anything I'm just trying to re open the discussion. Garry cannot do much about this I don't think. Do this in your console after joining your server. [code] dumpstringtables [/code] When the StringTable is filled. The server will crash. The main cause of this table being filled is wiremod becuase of how many entities and strings are stored in it. Please also keep in mind your stringtables will be different becuase you would not be loading the serverside stuff which will probably have more entries. I believe there are two stringtable problems in garrysmod also.
I've always wanted to ask this Overflow? Why not Increase limits and see if it still occurs, memory usage is not the problem, yet? My problem was that i had too many admin weps and 2 wire mods and 2 phx's XD they didnt delete
I'm still having this issue if I had RD3/LS3/WIRE together. *PS* I have this issue if I try to make a server though the game.
This is an old thread, but I'm currently having this issue on the server. Very consistently around the 3rd person joining always causes the server to crash. I'm wondering if anyone knows what could be causing this, as I have tried a great deal of fixes and none have worked so far.
Yeah ive tried a heap too with my server and I still get a 'Host_error: Overflow error writing string table baseline LuaFilenames' or 'Host_Error: Overflow error writing string table baseline LuaStringTable'. Can there be any progress on actually fixing these problems.
i removed latest sbmp and it was fine
There is no fix except removing all/"enough" "lua" from your server. Basically means that if you get rid of "every" lua file on your server it would not happen. Leave even the default sandbox there and it will crash due to this. (well, not in reality, since the table would then be filled so slowly that something else will manage to crash the server before it gets full) You can always make frequent mapchanges since those empty the growing LuaStringTable.
There is a module dll out that allows you to expand the string limit, Im currently testing it out on my server, to see if it works. The code seems to increase it from 4k to 8k or so. Not sure if it will make a difference, but heres hoping. Apparently it will only stop the crash on the server, but not for clients, but the server crash is the one Im experiencing anyway.

This string table bug is very annoying (Especially for Spacebuild servers and servers that need a lot of addons to start with) i wish there was an "Official fix" for it but i don't think its possible without breaking other things in gmod or having to redo a big chunk of garrysmod. I guess another idea although its not the best is make a nice little auto map re loader that reloads the map every 1-2 hours and warns the users connected about 5 min before so they can at least save their work and ensure that the server actually restarts ( if you have a rented server or using the old bat file to auto restart it you may have noticed that they don't work when the lua string table overflow happens.) Anyway if the fix works for you hope you don't mind sharing it ;P
Sorry, didnt check back on this thread... Im not sure where I got it, its in a thread here on facepunch, the module is called. gmsv_networktables.dll I've been using it for month or so now, but to be honest, I havent noticed any large decrease in the error occurance. I've also noticed that some players have blatently tried to use this lua overflow error to crash my server intentionally. They do this by attempting to join, exit, join exit and so on. But from my own understanding of the error, this method would not work. The lua files are essentially being duplicated once for every player who joins the server. I cant see Garrys Mod being so stupid that it would create the lua files multiple times for the same player. Meaning that repeated joins by the same player, shouldnt cause a crash. I believe (possibly in error) that the lua files only get duplicated per unique player in a server session. Im currently looking for auto clickers or something that would click on the OK button, to dismiss the error message, to allow the auto restart. It might be the best method of surviving it. Im also going to check to see if the dumplua command helps too... It should be possible to add it into a function, and hook it to the player join event, to have it automatically executed on player join. Hopfully, it might solve the problem or reduce it. EDIT - I misunderstood the purpose of the Dumpstringtables command..... Thought it might clear the table, alas, it doesnt.

What about all the other SB2 servers out there? There are loads of servers that don't get this but even more that do. What is the point of garrysmod.org if using these addons will only crash the server/client sooner. Maybe instead of using LUA, garry could switch to another programming language. Say...Python?

This has nothing to do with the language, it has to do with the shitty stringtables that valve uses in source. AzuiSleet is currently working on something which may fix this, I suggest following the update thread over in the Lua Scripting forum. Gmod Tower doesn't use 4,000 fucking files for a bunch of crappy entities, that is why their server does not suffer this error. However your addons have around 3-4 thousand lua files total, while Gmod Tower uses like 500-600 maybe?
