Ive never played PERP but everywhere around Facepunch I see everyone saying they hate it and its a "Stolen" gamemode. How is it stolen. If someone would fill me in I would be thank full. Thanks
They hate it because it's too much serious I think, and I don't really know about the gamemode being stolen, but I know it is.
I'll direct you to my thread about PERP from not too long ago. A few of them know what they are talking about.

PERP is NOT serious. Doing a simple /me raises gun is NOT serious. Serious roleplay is playing as a character that develops life, as in real life.
PERP is running from 9 year old cops while trying to run people over.
CLOCKWORK, is serious roleplay.
Now, the reason I hate PERP is because it's infested with tiny child cops.
DMCA notices that angry kids and creepy old people send out is personally what puts me off of it.

Clockwork isn't serious roleplay, there are multiple schemas that do not support your argument.
People mainly are against PERP because it's run by idiots who had to pay someone for it. PERP was never released, it was leaked and I think that it is due to the fact that it is undermining the work that PE put into it
AND it's run by little kids ruining the name of the gamemode.
"Drama"
It gives too much power to rdmers, if you get killed, you must sit tight for like 3 minutes or so. Just to be killed again anyways.
PERP isn't bad, it's a pretty fun gamemode - what's bad is the majority of the players, lack of a good number of admins and in-some cases, bad server owners.

No, PERP is bad.
From what I've heard over the years, Perp was stolen / leaked and so people don't want to associate / develop for people who own a gamemode that was unfairly acquired.
Bear in mind most of the versions of Perp flying around nowadays have very basic skiddy modifications so they can claim they have the "latest" version of Perp.
The gamemode itself is player driven but the majority of players don't like to lose whatever situation they're in and will try and get revenge on whoever "beat" them, whether it be their weed stolen, arrested etc. by using their previous knowledge and so it just turns into a big tit for tat fight with people metagaming to their advantage.
Eg.
cop sees plant glitching through wall,
cop doesnt want to lose so refuses to leave until he's gained access to confiscate them
grower doesn't want to lose and/or moans that cop saw through wall
argument ensues with both parties not backing down as it would cause them to "lose"
grower shoots cop
cop calls RDM
etc.
etc.
It's not the gamemode that's the problem, it's the players that are either sore losers or stubborn as hell
This can also be true for DarkRP
In short; it's a broken, leaked gamemode that has a lot of controversy spiraling around it due to the copyright claims.
Some people like it, some don't. Also, I never got the point of serious roleplay. You're playing a game on the internet; if I wanted to have a realistic and serious experience, I'd go out in real life to do it.
Because perp is the new DarkRP
Believe it or not PERP does have copyright on it.
To prove this, I am giving you the quote and source of very trustable information from the US Government it self.
Do I have to register with your office to be protected?
No. In general, registration is voluntary. Copyright exists from the moment the work is created. You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work. See Circular 1, Copyright Basics, section “Copyright Registration.”
However; it does require you to register it in the records to use it in a court of law as it says here:
You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work.
in that same paragraph.
So this should clear up all the copyright issues about PERP.
I played PERP when it was just starting up, and it used to be much much better due to the great community.

In my opinion, I don't like PERP because:
Externally:
Most (if not all) communities that host it, do so for money and popularity.
Communities that run/ran PERP, run/ran an illegal version of it (There are some exceptions).
This gamemode is private and at the same time leaked.
DDoSes are so often you lose the urge to play.
Internally:
Most PERP players are young and/or stupid, this prevents from people having "fun".
PERP admins are often unfair.
PERP has just 2 ways of "beating" it witch are by doing drugs or search of them, in the end you get bored.
Most (if not all) PERP Server "Owners" don't play fairly and some are Newbie LUA Coders (or "NLC").
For me PERP is an good example of "Static gamemode" where what you do, inside of it, remains the same after 100 years BUT the Hud or Menus.
P.S.: I don't want to point fingers :tinfoil:
I hate all RP gamemodes because of only three things.
- Bad Economics
- Out of Character Rules [fuck MOTDs]
- Admins
You shouldn't have either of these in an RP gamemode because it leads to the entire server being chaotic and corrupt.
I liked PERP back when it was actually hosted by PE, not so much anymore.
