Hey, before I make note of my tech specs., keep in mind that I was able to run Garry's Mod for quite a while until a game update was available. My graphics card is not supported by GMod, however was able to run prior to the update.
Specs.:
Intel GMA X3100
OS 10.6.4
Problem:
"This game does not support this type of graphics processor".
Time of error:
After a GMod update was installed.
What happens:
1. Steam > GMod > Play
2. hl2_osx opens
3. Almost immediately error message is displayed
Attempted solutions:
Recommended by GMod Support; launch options > -dxlevel 80, -dxlevel 81
garrysmod > garrysmod > videoconfig_mac.cfg > changed dxlevel to 80 and 81; file is modified during startup
So, my request to the community is to see if there is anyways to bypass the hardware check so I can play the game again. I understand that if my graphics card is not supported by the game, then it's understandable that I am having this problem. The only reason why am asking about this is because I was able to play before, and I would like to play again.
Thanks a bunch and let me know if you need any more information,
David

This is why.
Also we don't really want to know your real name thanks.
That was very unhelpful knowing that you're a dick and couldn't take into consideration that the game worked for my computer prior to some update.
But thank you for your help.

Really?
Seriously?
Think about it.
This is how I see it:
GMod works, and I can have a good time. GMod now does not work, and I'm looking for a plausible solution, not some fool to tell me to think about the problem. I've done that, and have tried various things. Clearly if it worked before, it will work again.
A reasonable response would be "Sorry, it just won't work, it some was strange act of goodness that it worked before".

And I'm going to give you a dumb box for being persistent.
Take it or just leave.
Gosh darnit... a dumb box? Now I can never show my face in public...
hey, Im sorta having the same problem.
Im on PC and when i load the latest Gmod i get a black screen whenever i switch windows (im in windowed mode) and it wont go back to normal
OP, try deleting your main 'garrysmod' folder under the Steam directory (hardly use macs, so I wouldn't know under what specific directory Steam is installed in). Then relaunch GMod.

Specs?
"dxlevel" does nothing on a mac, DirectX is proprietary to windows. Macs use OpenGL.
I have no clue why it won't launch, I can run this with an even weaker computer.
@HighDefGE
Toshiba Sattelite M50, 512 MB of ram with a 1.7GhZ Processor
It has run perfect before BTW

To me, it looks like you have some weak and outdated hardware and an integrated chipset, which neither are meant to handle games. Though personally, I'd add another compatible 512mb stick in there as that motherboard supports up to 1GB of ram. I can't say it'll be a huge difference, but it may help.
Thanks HighDef.
if you have Googled the specs then the graphics card listed anywhere you have seached is wrong. i had a new better gaming one fitted.
and RAM? well i can play CS: S and HL2 with it so it should be fine
And yes. it is outdated :'(
you using mac?
