I just decided to get into downloading custom content today, but once I got them and extracted them, I couldn't figure out where to put them. I'm really clueless here, please help.
If the folder has an info.txt file in it, then it goes in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\<steamname>\garrysmod\garrysmod\addons
If it does not, extract it to your garrysmod folder.
If it's a game-mode, put it in the gamemode folder.
If it's a map (bsp) put it in the maps folder.
That solved that problem, but I still don't know where to put SAV files.

in your garrysmod/garrysmod/SAVE folder

Yeah, I guessed as much, but the damn thing didn't have a save folder.
It generates one first time you save a game, but it's no trauma to just make one I guess.
