• WRT45GS Router + Dedicated Server = No?

Hello everybody, I have recently been trying to get a Garry's Mod Dedicated server to run successfully, however I have not yet reached that goal. I have three computers, one ps3, and an iPod running off of a Linksys WRT45GS router in my house. I am only allowed to use 2 of the 3 computers because the other one is a family computer. My laptop, a brand new HP Laptop with Windows 7 is the computer which the dedicated server is running off of, and the computer in which I am using to play Garry's Mod is a HP Desktop with Windows Vista, which is about 6 months old. Because the router has designated my laptop with the IP Address 192.168.1.107, I have port forwarded the ports 27000 to 27020 under that address (I can only port forward under 192.168.1.- addresses). I have also DMZ'd my 192.168.1.107 IP so that there is (hopefully) less conflict. However, I continue to have the problem where only I can join the server. And also I have learned that even when the server is not running, and the ports I have forwarded are not occupied, the ports are still closed. This has been annoying me for quite some time, as it appears I have done everything right. If anybody would happen to know the problem, and how to fix it, please let me know! I don't mean to be mean or anything, but there is one thing that annoys me more than anything, and that is people who reply "I'm having the same problem". So please, so that nothing in my house is damaged due to anger, please don't post that. Once again, if you can help in ANY way whatsoever, please reply! Future thanks, Dan
Download open port check tool [url=http://www.portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm]here[/url] to make sure that your ports are open.
Port 27015 is [B]NOT[/B] open on either UDP or TDP. I do not have the server on or anything. [editline]08:38PM[/editline] Is there a way I can set it up so It uses my computer's IP address (99.234._._) instead of using the router-designated ip address (192.168.1.107)? Because I think that's the problem, here's why: As far as routers go, the 192.168 ip address is an internal address. The router gives a different 192.168 address to each peice of hardware that is connected to it. Because it is internal, outside computers cannot access it unless they are part of that network, and so they try to connect to it as if it was an external address, either coming into contact with their own router, or nothing. By setting the ip to my laptop's external ip address, other computers would not have that problem as the address is reserved for my computer only. So now I just need you guys to help me make the server's IP its regular ip (99.234.117.51) instead of the internla ip (192.168.1.107) [editline]08:46PM[/editline] also bump
Bump. Also, any ideas on how I can change the ip address of the server from my 192.168 address to the 99.234 address that most devices use? Please and Future Thanks [editline]04:56PM[/editline] Okay, I figured out how to set up my IP port, but now I'm getting an error message every time I start up my server that says "Couldn't allocate any server IP port." I set the ip to that of my laptop's IP address. However, it appears that both my desktop and my laptop have the SAME ip address! How do I change this, because the reason I cannot allocate the server IP is probably because my desktop computer is using it.
really hosting a dedi on a laptop? 192.168.1.1 or 0.1 is your default gateway for your router. 99.234 something is your ip address, which identifies you over the internet. two completely different things. its not your ip port. its just a port that people can access using your ip. you can have the same ip and have many ports for example if your running multiple servers. to get into your router to portforward, go to start > run > type cmd in the white box > in the black box type ipconfig. look at the "default gateway" address, and type it into your internet browser. there you can change and allow ports. to view your indentifying ip address that others can connect to, just visit whatismyip.com
