No longer crashes when modelprecache is full (instead refuses to load new models)
So, this part of the update was great news for our servers. Model precache is the only reason it crashes, unless someone loves to prop spam. The original idea of sv_maxprecachemodels would have be amazing, but this was better than nothing. Until we tested and only thing that has changed is the error text. Same issue, same reason. Test 1 Test 2 Is this update working for anyone else? (The model version of the update).
I get this with latest update.
sv_maxprecachedmodels Unknown command "sv_maxprecachedmodels"
when running the command via rcon. Sorry I cannot see your pics for some reason. :(

Maybe Garry should make that 'Patching Broken Update' message on the loading screen a reality. >.>
The worst thing is this has been available to test on the svn for just under a month. Why didn't you server owners test then rather than bitching that it isn't working?
The worst thing is this has been available to test on the svn for just under a month. Why didn't you server owners test then rather than bitching that it isn't working?
That, I don't have a good answer for. However, I can say if it's been under testing for a month why didn't Garry test it at least once? This could be situational but I can never get this new "feature/fix" to work.
the worst thing is this has been available to test on the svn for just under a month. Why didn't you server owners test then rather than bitching that it isn't working?
thank you.
thank you.
Garry, my point wasn't to bitch but to report it still broken. Also, Tobba did test this with the command sv_maxprecachemodels command in the beta. [editline]16th December 2010[/editline] So, again just informing. I'm not aware of a bug tracker where to post this info to, if there is point me to it and I'll throw it there next time. Managed to pull of an edicts crash, although I have to admit it took me 30 players and a warzone to do it. So nothing major. The edicts fix seems to work fine under normal circumstances. If you are fussed about things not working, create a server using the gmod_game SVN to test this kind of shit on, then report the error while it is easy to fix and test. Server owners like you are a major pain in a developers backside.

This was as Garry went on vacation. Not sure what more testing you expect us to do, if it works in beta then not release? I really was NOT trying to bitch at Garry. The thread was made to simply highlight the issue with the update. Would you prefer server owners to not report issues about updates?

Though if it worked in gmod_game then something must have happened when Gary committed it, but so far it doesn't seem like there are many error reports.

And none of which say sv_maxprecachemodels work.
Doesn't work for me either.
thank you.
You shouldn't exspect that others are always testing for you, you should atleast test it yourself.
Yeah because of course, he would code something and not test at all, right? garry does test, and even on the bug tracker he left notes that the fix should be tested. Just because it works in the office doesn't mean it will work outside, which is why the SVN is there.
You shouldn't exspect that others are always testing for you, you should atleast test it yourself.
With the amount of community materials that is nigh impossible. people have bad coding habits, so even the things Garry creates that work on common mods, may not work on smaller ones or gamemodes due to bad coding or workarounds.
command is sv_maxprecachedmodels not precache
command is sv_maxprecachedmodels not precache
Read the thread? Every post where it was visible precached was used
Read the thread? Every post where it was visible precached was used
Na I made a type and said precache in a post ;) Anyhow update: sv_maxprecachedmodels is now a known command. However: Max Strings: 1024 Num Strings: 537 When you print the table it still reports 1024, even though it's set higher. Also, still crashed at 1024. Again, not flaming/bitching anyone this is to report it not working and to hope for Garry to take a peak at it.
Try now. Setting it higher than the engine maximum will just revert to the old behaviour though. It doesn't resize the string table in any way. It just refuses to try to load more models than its able to.
From http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1039226-gmod_src-Fixed-sv_maxprecachedmodels
