I would like to ask some questions:
1. I've heard that gmod 9 does, but Gmod 10 does NOT require you to have a source game installed. However, the official site contradicts this. What is true?
2. If I've installed a source game, say, half-life 2, do I need to insert the CD-Rom to play Gmod?
3. Does buying Gmod at steam require you to have a special downloader installed? If so, where can I get it?
4. In the unlikely case Gmod 10 will be updated to gmod 11, will I get Gmod 11 for free if I've got Gmod 10 before the release of Gmod 11?
5. For how many years and above is Gmod? 12? 16? 18?
6. Is Gmod usable on Windows Vista and Windows XP/Windows XP Professional?
Thanks in advance!
I would like to ask some questions:
1. I've heard that gmod 9 does, but Gmod 10 does NOT require you to have a source game installed. However, the official site contradicts this. What is true?
Garry's Mod 10 requires one purchased source game to run. Garry's Mod gets its resources from the games that you have purchased or activated on Steam. So if you want to spawn stuff from portal, you must buy portal. Halflife 2 content is included with every source game. I'd recommend purchasing CounterStrike: Source
2. If I've installed a source game, say, half-life 2, do I need to insert the CD-Rom to play Gmod?
No, you do not.
3. Does buying Gmod at steam require you to have a special downloader installed? If so, where can I get it?
Buying GMod on Steam requires you to download Steam. Steam is free, manages all your updates and has a useful chat feature.
4. In the unlikely case Gmod 10 will be updated to gmod 11, will I get Gmod 11 for free if I've got Gmod 10 before the release of Gmod 11?
All updates are free. You pay only once.
5. For how many years and above is Gmod? 12? 16? 18?
Its more about maturity, and less about age. 13 or 14 is the age of many of the players.
6. Is Gmod usable on Windows Vista and Windows XP/Windows XP Professional?
Anything XP or Higher is fine. Windows 7 Works too!
Thanks in advance!
Hope this fixes things up for you.
Garry's Mod gets its resources from the games that you have purchased or activated on Steam.
Does this mean I need to have bought the game from Steam? And what does 'activated on Steam' mean? Is that for games you haven't bought on Steam? If so, how do I activate games on steam?
All Source games have to be activated on Steam and require Steam running in order to work, including Garry's Mod.

If you bought HL2 from a retail shop, it would have demanded that you install Steam to play it. You then would have had to add the CD key to steam.
Also, There is no Gmod 10 / 11 / 12 officially. These just mark significant engine upgrades of which is no concern to the end user. It's called "Garrysmod". No Number versioning.

I read this in some sort of rap due to the way it was written
I've got another question about the game. Some games Gmod uses as it's sources are 16+, such as half-life 2. These games contain pretty large amounts of blood, and from what I've seen on youtube video's so far, Gmod does, too, contain large amounts of blood, though not as much as in Half-Life 2. My parents are (and to be honest, I am too) concerned about that. So my question is whether or not it also makes Gmod 16+

No, you buy it once, the game is tied to your Steam account, you can use the game everywhere that there is Steam (and the game of course).

It really isn't that violent, unless you get the dismemberment mod, but Garry's Mod is a fun modification, not violent, just the basic of shooting stuff and blood comes out, that's really not violent.

Yay for this, this means I can do huge pointless fort wars with my little brother :P
all done, sweet, moderator lock please.
Final question: If I install Gmod on multiple computers, do I have to be logged in on Steam WITH SPECIFICLY MY ACCOUNT? Can somebody else log in on Steam to play my copy of Gmod? Or does it have to be my account to play the copy of Gmod I own?

It has to be your account.
Yes, you have to be on YOUR account, and why are you concerned about violence, It's not horrible but yes there's blood, but you can probably get a mod to make it blue or something :D
Or you coud use the online/offline trick for 2 computers and 1 account.
Oh. how do you do that
Yes, I'd like to know too
You can start the game on one computer, have the other computer login to steam and start the game and the other computer should get disconnected, don't worry, you can still play over the LAN.
But playing over LAN would still require each player to own gmod and a source game on their steam account right? So it wouldn't really matter. By the way, can you activate the same Source game twice? I don't think so but I'll ask anyway, just to be sure.
Nope.

You can login to the same account on both machines once one machine has started Gmod.
