Hey everyone,
Since I've reinstalled Gmod on Windows 7 Ultimate (32 Bit), Ive been having a lot of problems with it. For example, the menu boxs (server list box, multiplayer box etc) are transparent and the active one in use ends up behind the others.
In game, I get weird coloured lines/triangles appearing. Some wiremod components become invisible to the tools, even though they're visible graphically (making wiring, editing and even removing impossible).
Ive tried a fresh install and end up with the same problems. I try and keep it to the very bare minimum (Wire SVN, PHX3 SVN) using the links from the SVN Wiki page. Nothing seems to work.
Its not showing some mods too. I had Pew Pew on and working (despite all the others troubles Ive been pressing on) and now it wont show, even though the SVN is up to date.
I know it's a lot but Ive given you everything I know hoping something will stand out to someone as the cause. Has anyone else had this or know the problem?
My specs are...
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz
Memory: 4GB
OS: Windows 7 32Bit Ultimate
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
Drivers are all up to date.
Sounds like your graphics card is struggling - badly.
It ran Gmod without a problem on Windows Vista no more than a few weeks back.
It's not even anywhere near maximum settings. Will try turn them down to the very base settings.
Go into task manger and tell us in Processing, how much is being used out of how much. In other words, tell where the lines are (e.g. like middle, low, high)
And I can't believe it isn't working...
Maybe because GMod doesn't support DirectX 10?

Yes your graphics drivers are outdated. A fair few GPUs needed upgraded drivers after Windows 7 was released.
Go to nvidia.com to get your latest drivers.

Gmod supports, 7, 8, 8.1, 9, 10 and 11. Correct me if I'm wrong somebody.
Menus and stuff are fucked below DX9. It gets worse the lower down you go.
Well, obviously, Eugh, Direct X 7....

Don't think Source supports DX10 and 11, but DX10 and 11 GPUs are backwards compatible with DX9 and below.
Mhmm, thought it would be DX10/11 compatible as when in video settings it just says DX9 + which I assume just means it's running at DX9 but I have better.

It means it's running at DX9 but you can have lower.
Im running on Win 7 Ultimate x64 without a problem. My graphic card supports DX10/11.
i had the same problem and i have windows7 home premium and i ficked the problem by writing -dxlevel 90 in the garry's mod launch options but with that it will make the screen not fullscreen like HD so then you delete it from the launch options but before you do all this look in your gmod options and the video tap and press advansed and there in the corner it should say directx level in the corner (i had it 7 before but it has to be at least 9) if it was 9 or below then do all that stuff in the begening
It runs fine in my laptop:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
Nvidia 9600M GT 512 MB
Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz
4 GB RAM
So I just don´t understand it. Try to use DX 8.1, 8, or 7.

Think this might of worked mate. I had a similar line in there before but this one appears to have put everything right. Im reinstalling my mods (did a fresh install) and I'll see how it goes. Will let you know on here if it goes wrong again.
Thank you everyone for your help.

i asked the forum too but nobody replied so i just did some things in the launch options and it was ficksed (i found this myself)
Change your Theme to Basic, then try. Windows 7 uses graphical power just to run the desktop, where do you think all those sexy visuals come from?
