Graphics card help

Let me start this thread by saying that if you are pissed off with my unknowledgeableness (i know it's not a word) just tell me to leave the forum.

I have all the recommended specs to play garrys mod apart from a directx level 9 graphics card.

When i play garry's mod it crashes with a blue screen whenever i shoot npc's or whenever anything explodes.

Will buying a directx level 9 graphics card fix my problem?

And where on the motherboard is it's graphics card compatibility written.

Open your case, and look where your graphics card is plugged in (or would be plugged in). You will see one of these slots:

It will then tell you on any graphics card box which one of these slots it uses.

Hi how do i tell if it is the PCI or the PCI express 16? it is approximately 8 cm ong and white.

Look at the number of pin slots. The number on the diagram is accurate.

Although if it's about 8cm long then I _think_ it's PCI.

TigerDirect usually ships in 2 days for me. Thats on the lowest shipping option. :) This one is for a better price, and 4x the memory, supports OpenGL 2.0, and DirectX 10. Also I have a PCI express x16 version of this and its awesome.

The Nvidia 9400GT is much better than the 8400GS

If you intend to play games with them I would highly suggest you get the 9400GT it's only a little bit higher in prince than the 8400GS but it is much better. (Unless you have loads of money and want to buy a even better card?)

I used to have a 9300GT and it works great with GMod, provided you have the RAM for it.

well i have one gigabyte of RAM which is the recommended amount so that would work...right?

The amount of Ram doesn't really matter.

I ran GMod maxed out on 1280x1024 on a P.O.S. Geforce 9400GT. That's what I used to use. It was pretty reliable for the 40 bucks I got it for.

ohk thanks is their any cheaper card than the Geforce 9400GT that would also work.
Keep in mind that: i only want to play garrys mod, I have windows xp, I have one gig of ram, i have a pci graphics card slot, I have a limited budget.

Your PC is pretty low quality, and if you're still running XP... Yeah. Next time you get a new PC, look into building it, since then you can get much better specs(for gaming) then you could from Dell or whatever and cheaper too.

9400GT is pretty outdated, i have it myself and i regret it :/
But yeah, i guess you can play gmod with it.
