You need to buy another source game in order to play it. The recommended is Counter-Strike: Source. The Gmod+CS:S package is only £16.

You know, you guys probably don't want to hear this, but I heard in school that someone got Portal 1 for free earlier this year during the Mac promo, and they were able to get Gmod up and running after, the week when Portal was no longer free because at this point, his full Portal was mounted.
Unless this being said is a lie, was this the only time someone could of got the Steam Gmod without buying a Source game?

First of all whoever said pulled a shitstorm lie on you, free source games do not come with the SDK and you need that to play garry's mod. Although, if you already have it it will add all the shit from the free game into GMod.
Plus, this has nothing to do with the thread, you just came all jackass shit and spilled your shit all over the thread.
The free portal promo actually gave you the FULL GAME to play and KEEP, unlike the odd MW2 free weekend where it gives you a two day license then leaves that game as "Pre-Loaded" and unplayable. During one of the TF2 free weekends, I mounted it. when the limited license was removed, the game unmounted itself.
