the first day i played it it worked fine, but when i play GMod now, from 5-15 minutes my entire computer shuts down. i have lost so much work because of this, can anyone help me fix this? I got GMod from steam and payed for it. it should be GMod 10 right? the PC i play on IS running windows 7... is that a problem?
Does it happen in other games to. [editline]06:36AM[/editline] I might know your problem
System specs?
I am not exactly sure. dad built his own computer (i play on his PC because mine doesnt really play 3d games very well...) and i am not sure of specs... ________________________________________________________________ no just GMod. TF2 and stuff work perfectly fine! PS: I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it did not work.
Check your garry's mod for fluke DLLs, try deleting your gmod folder.
click on My Computer and select Propersies or download Cpu-z, its free

(AFAIK I know gmod uses 2007, Unless it updated to 2009 with the cloud support etc.) (And i hope portal 2 is 2010/11 :3)
my GMod 9 folder?
We are trying to fix your GMOD 10, so doing anything to the GMOD 9 folder would ABSOLUTELY help? :downs:
Tell us your specs.
Also, check the computer for dust. It might be overheating.

@Dashiel i said before, i dont know my specs... but it runs TF2 fine, and i think GMod is older... @Fippe and it cannot be overheating because everything else works just fine for hours on end. dad runs a server busiuness and has to leave his computers on... [editline]01:51PM[/editline]
We are trying to fix your GMOD 10, so doing anything to the GMOD 9 folder would ABSOLUTELY help? :downs:
well he just said delete your GMod folder... trust me. i have tried to manually delete things like that and when i try to reinstall it all ends in tears...
It could still be overheating. I had the same problem, gmod causing my computer to turn off but being totally fine with anything else. It was fixed by making sure it didn't overheat.
i am stupid with computers. how do i make sure it doesnt overheat? do i have to buy another cooling fan?
Check the inside of your computer and blow the dust out with compressed air if it's dusty. A new fan could help, but it's probably not needed.
ok i will check that
Are you using gmod 9? Why would you mention it otherwise? - If you are, it's most likely because it's not updated.
He said delete GMod folders, he already deleted his GMod 10 folder so he was asking about GMod 9. You guys don't have to be such a dick about stuff.
wait which folder did he delete steamname/garrysmod or garrysmod/garrysmod, we need to be sure.
Hey, I have the Same Problem I am Running it on a Compaq Presario C700 Laptop with an upgraded ram to 1.50 gig. Im also running Windows 7 Ultimate. Ive uninstalled and Re-installed it many times Please Help
My little brother tries to run GMod on his computer and it also restarts his computer. He has a Compaq with about 1.25g of RAM running Windows XP.
Make sure the computer ain't overheating, some (if not all) computers shut down when the computer goes to about 90 degrees Celsius.
Many graphic cards shutdown when they reach a certain temperature to prevent damage, I had this problem with L4D2 and Crysis, try bumping down the settings and if all fails, a new card could fix it.
343N and KillerKyogre speak the truth. Old graphic cards can struggle running source games which means they overheat very easily. If they overheat too much the computer shut's itself off or the graphic card shuts down and crashes the game. The only way to fix this ideally is to get a new graphics card although you can improvise. IE: Try getting an external fan system which I got for an old laptop of mine and it cools it down loads which helped alot.
