• Can I get VAC banned if...

Hey! I am learning memory editing, DLL injecting, all that sorts, I am just curious because I need a game to practice on.. If I go onto singleplayer GMOD or a non vac server, will I get banned? I know it's a dumb question. I just want to make sure. (User was banned for this post ("cliff-hanger thread title" - postal))
VAC very specifically bans for memory editing / dll injecting so yes you will be banned... but only on vac servers. 0 vac games give a shit about singleplayer. memory editing is insanely client side, so it's really not worth it in multiplayer.

You could just set up your own server and launch it with -insecure
sv_lan 1 turns off vac use it and edit memory to your heart's content
Alrighty cheers, I just want to learn how to do it, I like learning, and I don't want to get banned or anything so I just want to test what I can do etc.
cheatengine + ollydbg IDA Pro if you're rich and can afford it.
Oh, I know what to use, I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't get VAC banned for trying in single player GMod.
Try to avoid thread titles like that, I've seen some people get banned for cliffhanger titles.
Oh, sorry, I didn't know what to write, didn't mean to make it a cliffhanger title, didn't even think of it until you said it.
Just to be safe i would disconnect your internet so it cant communicate with the VAC servers
Just to be safe i would disconnect your internet so it cant communicate with the VAC servers
Or just don't join a vac secure server so that you can keep your internet on and not needlessly inconvenience yourself.
Just to be safe i would disconnect your internet so it cant communicate with the VAC servers
I've used cheat engine in single player games with vac in multiplayer for years no problem just don't connect to a server after doing something in SP, reboot the game
As someone who does sketchy things with gmod, I can tell you from experience that you will not get VAC banned if you don't run blacklisted modules. Don't listen to all of these people telling you that HURR ULL GET BANNED IF U DO. [editline]11th May 2014[/editline]
VAC very specifically bans for memory editing / dll injecting
Vac gets triggered in other games if you edit the .text section. All other sections are not scanned because, you know, they generally get edited during the course of gmod's execution (exceptions obvious exist in sections like .reloc, but you get the point). In gmod, VAC appears to do nothing. OP, if you want to be super sure, you can reverse gmod's VAC yourself. You can find info on dumping vac's modules at unknowncheats.me. I wish gamedeception was still up, there was loads more info about reversing vac there. Because presumably to know about it, you'd have to go looking for it...

Shut up.
i'm a fag
Ok, I'll humor you here. 1) I assume you're referring to cheating here, which I did not claim I partake in :V. "Sketchy" could mean I am a cheater, or it could mean I make modules and some of the things I do in those modules would trigger VAC in other games. Regardless, cheating is not illegal. All cheating is is automating game action and reading values from memory. I guess things like exploits that mess with the server could be considered illegal, but I doubt it would hold up in court. 2) I never explained how to bypass the anticheat, I told him where he could find information so he could examine the anticheat himself. 3) Once again, no one has said anything about bypassing VAC. I'd assume since he's asking here and not on a cheat website, OP wants to get into making modules or something. I linked him to a cheat website because that cheat website has information on exactly what does and doesn't get detected by VAC, and info on how he can dissect gmod's form of VAC (they differ between games) so he can find for himself what is and isn't detected. What, would you prefer I linked him to facepunch or server forum threads where clueless kids tell other clueless kids about what VAC does and doesn't do? 4) Perhaps I asked myself awhile ago how VAC works, and as a competent reverse engineer, I googled around and found information on it at cheat sites (duh, where else could I find public info about VAC). Go witchhunt for cheaters somewhere else. (User was banned for this post ("Flaming by quote edit" - Craptasket))
the only game I really know that edits .txt is maybe mw2 I think, and when they do those they're implementing VAC in pretty psychotically rabid ways
Um... are you referring to the file extension or something? I'm referring to the section in windows executables. .text is where the file's code is located. Are you trying to tell me that mw2 uses self-modifying code? (hint: it doesn't) I don't really know what you are even trying to say here.
you can actually get gac banned for running any program not on the whitelist iirc
