I have seen at least a few hundred posts on the web about HL2 not running on Steam. Well, that isn't exactly my problem, because after I launch HL2 by itself, it will eventually work after these steps: I launch HL2 from my computer in windowed mode. It brings up the Valve picture, the loading screen appears, THEN it says that HL2 is not responding, I wait for 5 sec and it responds and puts me at the main menu of HL2. From there I can play HL2 just fine.
My problem is that when I launch Garry's Mod it will get to the HL2 loading screen (The guy holding the grav gun with his back to the camera, which is different from the normal HL2 loading screen), and then it will say hl2.exe is not responding. My only option at that point is to exit.
I have reinstalled HL2 twice and I have reinstalled Steam once, and my computer is more than capable than handling HL2. One thing I might add is that when I first tried to start HL2 it said that Steam did not have my video card in it's database. I ignored this because I have played other games on Steam, but it may well be the problem.
I have tried a thousand fixes, but I'm willing to try a thousand more.
Please help.
