• Any advice for creating dynamic shadows?

My sincerest apologies if this has been talked about before or if I'm posting in the wrong place, this is my first time posting at Facepunch, but for the life of me I can't find any help or I'm looking for the wrong thing. It's not that I need help making good shadows, I've found plenty of tutorials for that, but it's creating the shadows to even try to mess with. Like this shot here: These are some pretty good-looking shadows and a good shot overall. When asking for advice, I was told to use the common sense of lamps and r_projectedtexture_filter 0.25, but nothing happens: No matter what I try, I keep getting the default ragdoll shadows or no shadow at all if I make the current one invisible. My settings are all good as far as I know. Maybe I screwed something up in the picture, but I'm pretty sure I don't remember creating any good shadows in general with the lamps like in the first picture. These are the settings I have for Garry's Mod: If needed, my processor is Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3227U CPU @ 1.90GHz (4 CPUs), ~1.9GHz and I have DirectX 11. I know it says nine in Garry's Mod, but maybe that's as high as it supports? Or something like that, I'm not sure. Anyway, if anyone can provide any help for my possible simple-mindedness, it will be greatly appreciated and I thank you very much for your time.
From the man of Max himself https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zfwxKHGO4I
Thank you very much for the input. I've already seen this video before, but as I looked in the comments I noticed it may be my Intel graphics that are unable to make create the shadows in the first place... Though now that I think about it, I don't remember being able to make the shadows either on my previous computer when I had NVIDIA... Hopefully I'll figure something out. Anyway, thanks again for the reply.
Try setting shadow quality to maximum. If it doesn't help, your video card doesn't support shader model 3 or whatever it is called that is needed for dynamic shadows.

I thought it was strange for my Shadow Detail to not have a high setting. I don't suppose you know a way to get around it, do you? Or would I need a new card entirely?
there probably is a launch setting somewhere for it Take a look at this thread http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2353150
there probably is a launch setting somewhere for it Take a look at this thread http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2353150
My apologies for the week-late reply (and if posting this reply causes a bump to this silly thread), but I took a peek through that forum link and found exactly what I needed to get the high setting for my Shadow Detail. I probably never would've found it on my own. Thank you very much for the help, my friend. +rep, Thumbs-Up, et cetera. For anyone who peeks through this thread that's having a similar problem, the solution I found is at the bottom of the thread linked above. "Just set "-force_vendor_id 0x10DE -force_device_id 0x1180 -dxlevel 95" on the launch options. Remove "-dxlevel 95" after you close the game or your settings will reset every time you run the game."

EDIT: Seems that the model up there (which you made) was compiled before you set the shaders up.
