Im afraid my friend has been wronguflly banned due to an error in garrysmod.orgs file handling system. you see when he was uploading a file to garrysmod.org his internet connection began to act up so he clicked refresh in mid upload the server interpreted this as a re upload and promptly banned him his ID is: STEAM_0:0:26944610 HERE IS THE EVIDENCE notice the two identical files were uploaded 139 days ago BUT the file sizes are completely diffrent this is our converstion about the subject the best gift you can give for xmas him is the gift of vindication from wrongfull conviction
No.
Don't bet on it, very rarely there are garrysmod.org ban appeals.
I've already told your friend many times on his last thread that Garry will ignore these kind of threads, and will not unban people.
Re-buy Garry's Mod. Sorry to hear that you were being dumb and got yourself banned.
I've already told your friend many times on his last thread that Garry will ignore these kind of threads, and will not unban people.
a gmod ban is ironclad eh? even when its a mistake something about that kinda makes me feel insecure about uploading anything
I think you should post a thread asking Garry to unban you. YW if this helpered you!
I think you should post a thread asking Garry to unban you. YW if this helpered you!
I really don't know what the hell you've just said. [editline]19th December 2010[/editline]
a gmod ban is ironclad eh? even when its a mistake something about that kinda makes me feel insecure about uploading anything
It's technically his fault for not being patient.
It's technically his fault for not being patient.
well you see earlier this year he told me he moved to a more rural area in alabama and there is only one ISP out there and its a dial up he once told me it took him three days to update l4d2 he never plays multiplayer anymore and he cant watch youtube videos usually takes them 30min to one hour to buffer (thats for a regualr 1 minute vid) he says hes waiting untill comcast comes to the area next year
i feel really bad seeing him in this state he used to make the best wire boats complete with Knot gauges fuel, gps
What the hell? Why would garrysmod.org ban for reuploading? I don't even see how anyone can defend garrysmod.org Sure reuploading could not be allowed, but I don't see any reason why your SteamID should be perm banned.

And please don't rate yourself agree to make you look smart.
What's wrong with different filesizes?
What's wrong with different filesizes?
the file sizes are diffrent because the smaller one is an incomplete upload
What's wrong with different filesizes?
Agreeing with yourself doesn't make you look smart. Makes you look pathetic.
Calling people out on rating themselves doesn't prove a point, it just spams up threads.
Agreeing with yourself doesn't make you look smart. Makes you look pathetic.
Caring about ratings doesn't make you look smart. Makes you look desperate.
Caring about ratings doesn't make you look smart. Makes you look desperate.
I'd rather say it makes you look oversensitive. /offtopic I doubt he will get unbanned, as far as i know Garry pretty much ignores anything about garrysmod.org.
So It seems that Garry doesn't care if somebody got banned and deserved (did something to get banned) it or if it was a mistake (got banned due to a error with the ban bot) .

I'm gonna be honest, that's bullshit. This community really needs a better way to handle bans. Then again, it gets Garry more money I guess. Part of the plan maybe? Clever bastard.
I'm gonna be honest, that's bullshit. This community really needs a better way to handle bans. Then again, it gets Garry more money I guess. Part of the plan maybe? Clever bastard.
You realize this is the same community that used to ban people for spelling mistakes right? There's a very simple solution to all these ban issues on gmod.org... Only use it to download. Don't upload, don't comment, only download. You shouldn't ever get banned, and chances are it will reduce the amount of crap that gets uploaded needlessly. If you want to share stuff with friends there are plenty of other places to do it that don't ban people over minuscule things like gmod.org does. ;)
But what if you actually become a modder and want to upload ripped models or something, I'm talking about good mods not crappy ones. Do we all have to give that up because of fear of getting banned? I personally plan on doing more uploading in the future, but this kind of stuff doesn't encourage me if it threatens my Gmod that I PAID FOR. If you say the same thing to everyone technically we would have no mods and it'll defeat the entire purpose of the site and, like you said, we'll end up using a different site. All I'm saying is, being banned from spam uploading isn't a smart thing to put in. We all know people have bad connections, and we all know the site itself is slow. With this in mind, do you really think it's fair that someone gets banned from uploading too much by accident and loses their Gmod account? And is forced to buy another to use the site? Honestly, does that sound logical at all? I understand being banned for being an ass, being banned for uploading crappy things, and being banned for other stuff. But THIS type of ban is unacceptable. There is something that exists these days called a "suspension" I don't know if anyone heard of it. But it's when someone is banned from a site for just a certain amount of time. Pretty cool huh? Too bad we don't have that.
I can understand being banned for spamming, posting in wrong thread(been there dont that =P) or something of that matter, but sometimes mistakes happen. I mean there should at least be some way to apeal, and he has pretty good proof.
And to add, I'm sure this isn't just a one time thing. I'm sure this happened before.
They should give the automated system the ability to temp ban only. Then have the ban reviewed by a human later who then decides whether the ban be lifted or extended. machines dont yet have the ability to observe and logically deduce the unique circumstances surrounding a particular incident and act upon them accordingly and they should not be treated like they can. A machine would not find the fact that the same file was uploaded from the same ip twice in seconds of eachother on 50kbps internet as odd
unless you put exception: 2 files uploaded within seconds from the same IP running on a 50kbps internet
Then your just applying a kind of filter. There is still no logical deduction going on.
unless you put exception: 2 files uploaded within seconds from the same IP running on a 50kbps internet
putting an exception in the program wont fix the countless other random things that can go wrong in data delivery unless you can write an exception for all of them :P Even if you write an exception to hand the ban over to someone if there is something out of the ordinary you would still have to tell the machine what out of the ordinary is. This is what im talking about machines are not yet capable of such complex thought In fact I remember reading in a popular science magazine that IBMs Dawn supercomputer had the mental processing power of a housecat :)
