Then post a thread here if you really feel it's unique and has something to offer.
Sit in the server with a few friends, and people might consider joining, it's how I got my servers to fill in the past. People seem to be willing to join a server with just a couple people, but they won't join one with zero. Eventually the boulder will start rolling on it's own and you'll have people consistently in your server when you build up a community.
Just like Lurker said, you need to invest a great amount of time getting it's name spread. Sitting there looking at your empty server wondering "Hmm why would no one join" is easily solvable by finding a few reliable friends who are willing to play on a server, a server that will be boring the first few weeks. If you can rely on your friends, without promising them money, an admin rank, or other bullshit, they will play your server when it is empty and a playercount > 6 will already attract more people. As soon as people start joining, you will get more regulars. The more regulars, the less time your server will be empty. The less your server will be empty and more people will join. It's a circle, really, but starting a community or server won't work with money and Coderhire addons. It takes time and effort getting your server known, even if you just want to reach 10 people. Most kids don't stick to a server, but a part of the people who join will.
A player count is usually a good way to advertise. Get some of your friends to play with you. If they enjoy it, they will stay. Other people will see a populated server and give it a try. Within a week you will have regular players (so no need to get your friends in to help) that will attract new players. You will be surprised how well it works. I can set-up a vanilla server, and have a constant 25-30 players on (wrecking shit up).
